I thought all along it was a "poor me I'M behind in the NH polls and lost Iowa and it's all about ME" moment which would have been lame.

But as it turns out she's talking about the idea of the country staying in its current shithole, even I would cry over that.

Oh well keep trying for a "dean scream" moment. Or you could start talking up your candidate's best points instead of trying to get rid of the other ones on cheap SLUDGE headlines.

Full quote: "You know, I have so many opportunities for this country, and I just don't want to see us fall backwards -- no."

Aside from the fact that the process really is a "grind" as Barack Obama said when he was told of this emotional episode--what Hillary seems to be saying is that it's all about her--and only she can save us and clean up Bush's mess--which is just not true.

20. I would say America has taken a huge fall backwards since January 2009
The past 7 years of Bush-Cheney have been a continuous downward slide.

The idea that the next President will be able to prevent the fall makes no sense.

The next President will have to work for 8 years just to turn the country around.

Emotional Clinton Says, This Is Personal
2008-01-07 14:35:46
By PHILIP ELLIOTT Associated Press Writer

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) — Hillary Rodham Clinton's eyes welled up and her voice broke repeatedly Monday as she talked with voters in a restaurant about her campaign for the presidency. The former first lady was making a last-minute pitch for support as she spoke on the eve of the state's primary, with polls showing her trailing Democratic rival Barack Obama.

Asked by a sympathetic voter how she keeps going in the grueling campaign, she replied, "It's not easy. It's not easy." "And I couldn't do it if I just didn't, you know, passionately believe it was the right thing to do," she said, her voice catching. "You know, I've had so many opportunities from this country, I just don't want to see us fall backwards," she said, her voice trailing off. The voters crowded into the restaurant applauded encouragingly.

"So," she continued, then paused, seemingly to control her voice as her listeners applauded again. "You know, this is very personal for me. It's not just political. It's not just public. I see what's happening, and we have to reverse it. And some people think elections are a game. They think it's like who's up or who's down. It's about our country. It's about our kids' futures. It's really about all of us together. You know some of us put ourselves out there and do this against some pretty difficult odds. And we do it, each one of us, because we care about our country. But some of us are right and some of us are wrong. Some of us are ready and some of us are not."

- snip -

After she spoke several of the people in the Cafe Espresso audience crowded around Clinton and offered sympathetic support.

Actually I just listened to the video and the exact words are: "You know I have so many opportunity's from this country,...."

I understand your point as that part becomes less ego sounding but this part still suggests that Obama would take us back-wards:

"...I just don't want to see us go back wards."

A better way to put it would have been:

"This country has given me so many opportunity's and I think I am the best one to move it forward."

Certainly people are not perfect and George Bush gets away with sounding like a 5th grader and gets away with it. If I were on the campaign trail it would be one blunder after another! I would suck at that kind of thing. I do much better writing when I can gather my thoughts. So perhaps I should cut everyone a lot more slack. It must be hard running these days because everyone has a video camera. Every little thing you do is under constant scrutiny.

36. Geez, enough already with bashing Hillary.
It was a sincere moment. She gives a damn about this country, and she's spent years serving it. I doubt her backwards comment referred to Obama or Edwards; she's worried to death that the Dems will end up snatching defeat from all-but-certain victory (before they screw it up), and we're stuck with another 8 years of Repub rule.

I'm tired of the media and DU beating her up. She's sustained more attacks than any other politician in my memory, even more than Nixon, and I remember Nixon. She got emotional for a moment for herself and her country. So what, big guys? So what?

As an Obama supporter.. i do have to say, I don't think it was all that bad. She choked up for a second.. i wouldn't exactly call it "crying". Could Obama or Edwards get away with it? No, but because she's a women.. i think it plays fine.. she's just trying to show her softer side IMO.

Won't make me any more or less likely to vote for her (and i'm voting for Obama).

Her SPEECH however.. about "some people being ready to go on day one and some people are not" is total crap though.. give me a break.. you think Obama & Edwards haven't really thought out what they're going to do when they hit the oval office? Play some golf.. maybe watch a bit of TV.. relax a bit? C'mon.. THAT bothered me much more then the crying!
