I understand your point as that part becomes less ego sounding but this part still suggests that Obama would take us back-wards:

"...I just don't want to see us go back wards."

A better way to put it would have been:

"This country has given me so many opportunity's and I think I am the best one to move it forward."

It was a sincere moment. She gives a damn about this country, and she's spent years serving it.
