Edwards would be strongest candidate in Ohio and Florida
http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/PPP_Release_010105National.pdf

snip

"John Edwards is the strongest Democratic candidate for President in the key general
election battleground states of Florida and Ohio, according to a new survey conducted by
Public Policy Polling the evening after the Iowa caucus.
In Ohio Edwards would lead all four major Republican candidates and in Florida he has
leads over three out of the four. By comparison, Barack Obama leads only two of the
four potential GOP nominees in Ohio and just one in Florida. Hillary Clinton tops two of
her possible general election rivals in each of the key states.
“These numbers show that John Edwards remains the surest bet for Democrats to regain
the White House,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling. “Voters in
states key to choosing the Democratic nominee who are concerned about electability
should probably be thinking about giving their votes to Edwards.”

I realize that at this early stage it is still a beauty contest, but at some point voters have to realize that "electability" is the most important element in winning back the White House. Anyway, just food for thought.

1. and if we really want to WIN and have someone who is for the poor & working class
then EVERY single liberal or moderate Democratic radio personnel and TV personality needs to be saying these reports every day so people realize John Edwards is our most likely WIN in November.

3. Another "Edwards is most Electable" Article/Hillary Least
Probably has been posted here before and is prior to Iowa, but a good read and has pros and cons for each candidate. Shows HRC as least electable. Snippet below:

http://presidentialpolitics.blogspot.com/2007/12/clinton-obama-edwards-whos-most.html

John Edwards

Pros - The last three Democrats in the White House were Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, and Lyndon Johnson, from Arkansas, Georgia, and Texas, respectively. All southern states. In fact, only two Democrats from north of the Mason-Dixon line (JFK and FDR) have been President in the last eighty-five years. Yesterday, Edwards made a direct reference to the recent Democratic presidents being southern when he said, "The last two Democratic presidents, Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter, both talk like me." And this is to say nothing of the fact that the last 42 people to be President have been white men, unlike the two candidates above Edwards on this list.

Cons - In a general electability argument, there are not many cons for John Edwards. Yes, he voted for the Iraq War, but so did lots of Democrats at a time when the majority of the people wanted action. Edwards has since admitted the vote is a mistake he will have to live with for the rest of this life, and you cannot ask much more of him in that regard, as he has been a vocal critic of the war for the last couple years. The biggest con for Edwards' electability case is that without winning the nomination, he has no shot at the general at all.

8. The fact is...Edwards not only has the MOST SPINE... He is the MOST ELECTABLE.....How often do we
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 07:40 PM by charles t

get that opportunity?

In fact, though Edwards is described by the corporatist media as our most "left-wing" of the top 3 candidates, his populism actually has broad appeal, not only to MANY independents, but even a few Republicans.

Yet he has more backbone on progressive principles than his 2 main rivals for the nomination.

The unfortunate fact is, that if McCain is the GOP nominee (perhaps throwing a bone to the RR, and signing on the RR footsoldiers fore another 4 years) with a McCain/Huckabee ticket, that we very well might actually LOSE without Edwards as the nominee.

And it appears that, if Obama really does pull in some GOP support, it would be mostly in the BLUE states, where it will do absolutely no good...... The one candidate that wins for us in the BATTLEGROUND states of Ohio & Florida is EDWARDS.
