Poll question: Why was Hillary almost in tears?
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 07:07 PM by Quixote1818
On Edit: Can I just point out that my Mom was a Psychologist and she always stressed to me the importance of crying and not holding in emotions. If you never cry you could become a basket case. Crying is a natural thing and healthy. Yes even presidents need to cry once in a while. We all do.

23. I think it's interesting but then I was raised by a psychologist.
Analyzing people and why they do things is fascinating to me.

There is always the ignore button.

5. How about this as an answer
I will say that I’m sure that she is at the verge of exhaustion and nerves are probably pretty frayed and this was a very honestly emotional moment for her.

She was probably exhausted; some of us cry when we're exhausted.

10. Other. I can't stand her, but I watched the video and she wasn't crying.
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 07:00 PM by MercutioATC
Hell, her voice barely cracked.

Again, I come close to loathing her, but even I can't spin what she did as "crying".

(on edit) ...and this is hardly a "fair" poll...

11. She seemed to be attempting to channel John Edwards from Saturday's debate.
He REALLY connected, while Hillary had her seemingly insensitive "let's have a reality check" moment.

20. If she was peeling onions, the whole crying thing was a ruse for sympathy

15. Agreed. I'm an Edwards supporter but I imagine those guys and gal are at the
breaking point. The guys would be crying too if they could. Probably are in private!!

18. I think she's just freakin' exhausted, worn out & a sympathetic question happened to hit that.
I think they all must be ready to collapse right about now.

People are reading too much into it.

and I like your noting a sympathetic question. I saw emotion
but there were no tears.

21. I'm not a Hillary fan, but I think she's been under a tremendous amount..
of pressure. My goodness, look at who has had her in their sights...other Dems, Repugs, media, the people. How long can you go without making a gaff? The pressure has to be unreal. I feel sorry for all of them, even if I'm no longer rooting for anyone in the race.

My guy pulled out, and I think he was beginning to feel the pressure, too.

22. Other: Calculated strategy
I have not been a Hillary basher on DU, but this sure as hell looked calculated to me - a Hail Mary pass, as it were. And it worked, as she is the lead story on all the newscasts tonight.

Risky but savvy. It could backfire, but it certainly threw something new into the dynamic, and that was a necessary thing for her to do. I do note that she had the presence of mind to get her talking points ("Some of us are ready and some of us are not") into her "tearful" statement.

That's what it looked like to me, anyway. Probably to a lot of others, as well.
