Snappy comeback from Clinton
Hillary Clinton just now had about as adept a response as one could imagine to a bizarre disruption during her speech in the Salem High School auditorium.

Fifteen minutes into the event, a 20-something man stood up and started yelling over and over, “Iron my shirt!” as he held up a sign carrying the same message. A second young man in a different area joined him with the same handmade sign.

We were just sitting here trying to absorb the strangeness of the event when she came right back: “Oh, the remnants of sexism are alive and well!”

A minute later, after the police had removed the two men, Clinton said she was going to take questions, “if there’s anybody left in the auditorium who wants to learn how to iron his own shirt.”

other night when HRC was booed.....Teenagers and now you have this crap.

Remember Obama and Edwards people Hillary hasn't lost anything yet and it is sure not being the nominee.

Wait, the "Obama landslide" was what, 38%? That means 62% of Iowa Democrats didn't like Obama, yet Bush's presswhores keep saying, "America has changed, Obama has charmed the white man." Anybody believe that?

Remember what they did to Harold Ford in 04? Who thinks America has changed in the last 14 months?

40. First
Are you aware of the racist and religious attacks on Obama. I'd bet you are probably, very aware those.

Second, and this is what insults my intelligence the most with this play for my sympathy as a woman, this is not an attack. When you attack someone you do so to try to hurt them, not help them.

This kind of thing only could help her, and that would be pretty obvious to anyone really trying to hurt her, so we have to come to the conclusion that someone who wanted to Help her is behind this, get it?

Third, if there are 'sexists' out there, I'm sure they don't dare to wear their hearts on their sleeves with displays such as these. I'm sure any kind of sexism today is more an unconcious bias.

Look, as a woman, it's exactly these kind of antics that make me feel very strong negative feelings towards her. I'm talking really negative here people. I can't help it, I find her so insulting.

It's interesting to think how the circus she's putting on out there might actually do some real damage to women.

59. yikes, I didn't think of that....
but you just may be right. would make perfect sense for Hillary to do this - she comes out a winner in two ways:
1. reminder of the blatant sexism out there against her and all women and girls, and how this is an extra burden for her
2. a really good come back comment on her part to show her quick wit (I didn't think she had much of that tho so this sticks out as a bit odd to me.) and how to deal with nasty little surprises.

but then again.
There Are a Lot of first rate Aholes out there that honestly think like that - but somehow I doubt they would be so public about it?? Did they survive getting out of the building, because if I would have been there I just might have waited for them in the parking lot with a Tire 'Iron'. ;)

Unfortunately, she has had so many "opportunities" to encounter sexism, she's had time to perfect it.

Can you imagine the outrage if someone held up a similarly racist sign or shouted similarly racist epithets at Obama?

It would be all over the news, as it should be, but I'll bet we'll hear very little about this incident.

26. Planted
I'd put my money on them being planted, it gave her a chance to appeal to women, to make her look like people were attacking her, and a way to make the news and get more publicity.

C'mon, who would actually do that?! Literally, no one, think about it, in depth. Let's say you're someone who wants to do something like that, you know you're going to be on camera, obviously the consequences would be large.

I really don't think sexism is as rampant as she and her supporters make it out to be. Maybe I'm lucky, but I'm a 26 year old woman in Texas and I've never experienced sexism in any real way. I'm really sorry if that dissapoints some on this site.

With absolutely no shred of evidence you are accusing Clinton of arranging a sexist display against her and condemning her for it. What do you call making self serving accusations without a shred of evidence - grasping at thin air comes to mind for me.

How happy are you reading about John Edward's love child by the way? By your reasoning it could have happened so we might as well accuse him now and save some time.

It sucks. It sucks no matter who it is done to. Innocent until proven guilty is supposed to mean something to Democrats.

54. Please post facts
Look, there is no real proof to be had. Do you think I should look this up on Fox news? Maybe you think I should go interview the guys? Because, that's the only way I could get these facts you think I don't care about.

Look, when you argue something did happen because it could have not not happened, that's a logical fallacy.

Unless you can provide real proof then I'm leaning more towards this being a tactic instead of some real event beacuse it's the most likely of the two possibilities, imo.

What I'd be interested to know is, where are these guys? Surely the media would want to find them and interview them.

Please post links to these facts you refer to.

49. Have to agree with the "planted" folks on this one...
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 08:26 PM by hughee99
Okay, these guys were smart enough, not that you have to be a genius or anything, to get past security with a sign, but they couldn't come up with anything better than this? And what do you know, Hillary with a handy retort no less. Also, the sexism is just so blatant and obvious that it can't be mistaken for anything else. These clowns go through all this trouble, and have no other statement except pure, unrefined sexism. This is just too good for Hillary to be true...

She gets a couple of clowns with a sign so blatant no one can misunderstand it and dismisses them with retort in hand. She can keep the "sexism" issue in the news, without being the one who brought it up. In fact, there's no "other side" to this, so there's no spokesman for the opposition, unlike other back-and-forths she's had with Obama and Edwards. She can paint opposition to her as having no other complaints with her OTHER than her sex, and doesn't have to appear to be "on the attack" because she's not pointing to anything any other candidate said. It's the sort of issue that pushes SOME discussion of the issues, or of her dropping poll numbers, to the back burner. It plays to people who have their heads up their asses, who may know no more about Hillary than she was "attacked for being a woman" during a speech. IF people buy it as genuine, there are so many ways she can use this to her advantage, but I suspect that most people who are paying attention and NOT already Hillary supporters won't buy it. Those who aren't already too jaded by the whole political process will see it as a cheap political stunt and (maybe) feel a little insulted that she though people were too stupid to notice.

Just my 2 cents.
