How will Hillary dissing Martin Luther King play play with African-Americans?
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 07:51 PM by BluegrassDem
I hope the Obama campaign gets this quote out there cause it's truly disturbing and very sad that she thinks MLK wasn't as important as he was. WTF? Did she just think MLK only gave good speeches? The man lost his fucking life for the greater cause of equal justice for all!! He spent countless nights in jails, got hosed and bit by dogs to see racial justice and equality in this country, and she gives Lyndon Johnson all the fucking credit!!! Yes he signed it, but it never would've been a Civil Rights Act WITHOUT MLK!!!!

After this, I'll be interested to see how the black power structure that has kissing her and Bill's ass forever, how they will try to spin this one away. She's gonna go down big in S.C., and she really needs to go ahead and hang it up. By the way, I'm an African-American.

26. The Clintons have taken black people for granted for too many years
They haven't done shit for black people. Bill Clinton didn't even appoint a black person to any of the big 4 jobs in government during his entire 8 years! All they've been doing is playing the patronage game with black leaders, that's why the old black guard like Andrew Young, John Lewis, support them. The young don't have the same love for the Clintons like they do. We're suffering from a lack of jobs cause of NAFTA, etc.

50. Clinton never appointed a black to any top govt. job in 8 years!
The Big 4 are Secretary of Defense, Justice, State, and Chief of Staff. These seats are the leaders of government. The Chief of Staff is big cause it's the closest advisor to the president and basically runs the executive branch day to day. Black people supported Bill heavily, but he never bothered once to put a black in any top govt. job.

15. I don't even know what you're talking about, but I know you're full of crap.
Apparently you think Hillary said something insulting about MLK and want her taken to the whipping post for it.

But I've watched Hillary for 25 years and I KNOW she would not say (or even think) anything negative about Dr. King. Therefore, if you say she did, I know you're full of crap.

Shortly I will stumble across the Hillary quote you're referring to, and I'll see for myself whether she actually said anything wrong or whether -- as I suspect -- you're just another rider on the I Hate Hillary wagon with Chris Matthews and Arianna and Kos and ALL the other hate-poisoned people.

If I'm wrong and Hillary really IS guilty of dissing MLK, I'll come back here and apologize to you.

But I strongly suspect I won't have to.

36. I'm glad that HC clarified her statement later in the day
I'm African American and like her very much.

On the first statement, I can see that it would take a bit of explaining for African Americans to get what she means.

We get real touchy when our Leader of Leaders MLK is discussed without giving him his "propers."

On first read, I was wondering how many dogs and hoses touched the pants of Lyndon Johnson. I was wondering if any of his relatives had to give up their seats on the bus. I was trying to figure out if his two nice daughters MARCHED in Selma or sat at lunch counters.

HC did manage to quickly clean up her original statement.

By the way, I may be supporting OBAMA but even if I was supporting HC I would feel the same way about what she said-
I'm chalking it up to her having a bad day.

Should MLK get 100% of the credit for the civil rights act? How much should he get? How much should Johnson get? Why do you interpret her statement crediting Johnson for his acts as an elected official as dissing? Is it not clear that both men played a vital role?

47. Hillary did not diss MLK. There is a reading comprehension problem somewhere...
What she said was correct. All of MLK's activism would have been for nothing if the President - whoever he was - did not press Congress for action.

JFK started what became the Civil Rights Act of 1964 before he was killed. Johnson promised to get it passed, and he did. That was followed by the Voting Rights Act of 1965 also pushed by President Johnson.

It's getting pretty silly around here as the usual suspects keep manufacturing Hillaryisms that do not exist.

With those double digit leads by your rock idol you are still worried? Strange.
