Obama supporters: you need Edwards and Clinton fans
If Obama wins the nomination, he will need the other 60-65% of the Democratic party that hasn't been supporting him in the polls.

The irrational venom that is directed at Clinton, and to a lesser extent, Edwards, is not going to help you solidify the support you may need later on. People have very long memories in politics.

It's great that Barack seemingly has the appeal to reach independents and moderate Republicans.

But, while they may be of great help, they won't be the ones electing him.

The Democratic base will.

1. The Democratic base will rally around him
just like Hillary and John will.

4. I might vote for him, but I won't work for him.
Not until he drops the "reach across the aisle" talk and sprouts a backbone. He sounds like too much of the Dem leadership these days.

3. You'd think that would eventually dawn on some...
Later on they will ask "how...how..did the party become so divided"
they may even cry real, orchestrated tears.

5. I am not promising my vote to Obama should he get the nomination.

As you said, the irrational venom is absurd. I have also has this crap thrown at me by people too, not just blog posters.

Most certainly I won't volunteer for him.

6. We will all need each other whoever our nominee is.
We will all need to be united together. I hope we don't all kill each other before then and make the Republicans happy doing so.

There has been irrational stuff posted about Obama, Clinton and Edwards.

Too late for that...
I won't vote for Obama no matter what. McClurkin was inexcusable. I'll not vote for President if Obama is the Democratic choice.

9. It goes both ways...there has been a lot of venom towards Obama supporters here
from Clintonites. So please don't sermonize. In the end we will all need one another.

20. Link please. I do not recall any venom spouted by Hillary
supporters against obama. I hear about this all the time, usually as an excuse for more Hillary bashing, just have not seen it. I have certainly seen disagreement on some of the issues, but not bashing as is done regularly against Hillary. I am totally disgusted by it and will not support obama unless and until it is stopped.

few days ago (and is still thrown at him these last few days).

11. Watch Out Ruggerson. They're gonna get you too.
How dare you not support Obama? How dare any of us speak out for a candidate other than Obama. Hillary has been persona non grata for months. Edwards has been an also ran. It has been all Dennis all day and now...Obama.
I have posted here that his supporters are turning me off so that I can't even get to know him or what he stands for. If he is the Democratic nominee, then I will support him. Until then, I can support any other Democrat I want to.

12. You're acting like the primaries are over
There is still a race going on. Now is not the time to let up, no matter what candidate you support.

Also, I don't have anything against Hillary's supporters, on here, or out in the real world. My entire beef has always been and will always be with Hillary only.

13. Right now, it is all directed at Hillary as it is a 3 person race and she is odd man out
When she drops and they turn on John, it is going to be harder for me. Obama is a VERY strong #2 for me.

22. Actually
I'm leaning Edwards, but don't have to make my mind up for a few more weeks.

I see the real vitriol coming from a different side than you do, I guess.

There have been troll racist garbage posts about Obama, but they don't seem to be from Hillary or Edwards supporters.

19. Well...whoever gets the nomination...
will get the nomination. Those who don't want to vote for someone, because one of the person's supporters said bad things about their candidate...well...that's there prerogative. I guess if enough people feel that way, that will weed out the vote count nicely. I don't see the huge difference between these candidates that would incite so many to utter such nasty invectives. Oh and you are right..some people have long memories in politics...

21. The ignore feature is your friend
I haven't actually had to use it yet, but there are several DU posters I skip right over when I see their names. It's a good thing I can distance Obama from many of his supporters, otherwise I'd dilike him as much as I do them.

25. I don't remember using it either
Even during the 2004 wars. However, a certain "frank" poster who supports Obama and some former Clark supporters just might drive me to it, though. (hope that doesn't get this deleted, I did at least try to avoid calling anyone in particular out)

But seriously, the posters on this board are very likely not associated with Obama's campaign. You can't blame him for their acts, but I do understand the sentiment. Certain Kerry supporters almost caused me to withhold my vote, and that was when I realized I needed to ignore them, whether with the feature or just by seeing their names and skipping right over for knowing they would not add to the discourse. It's realy all we can do.

27. Newsflash: DU is not even close to the Democratic base.
Otherwise it would be a two-man race between Edwards and Kucinich.
