11. I'm an Edwards supporter to the end, but I wish to God people stopped attacking women for crying
When are we going to attack men for crying? The other day a female exec where I worked cried out of anger, and the male execs practically ate her alive. I'm sure sometimes people might pretend to be crying and not be crying, but there are times when people really do get choked up. It happened to me with a husband and he told me to stop using crocodile tears. That pretty much shifted the gears of my mood and caused me to call him an asshole, because what else is a person who ridicules your emotions, if not an asshole? On the other hand, when men cry, oh boy, women get worried, men get all uncomfortable and discuss whether to take the guy out for a drink, and everyone goes into high gear to solve his problem. Yet if a woman cries, she's a manipulative bitch who's using crocodile tears. Well, I don't care who cries. People have the right to cry. It's TIME we get over our right wing extremist bullshit hatred of women crying. I HATE THAT SHIT. And sorry for ranting on so much about this.

19. Okay, but I get very very EDGY about the crying issue.....
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 09:50 PM by Sarah Ibarruri
.... I've seen women cry at work and they end up being ridiculed. It makes me want to deck somebody when I hear them ridicule a crying person, PARTICULARLY a woman because WE WOMEN have more of a propensity to automatically cry WITHOUT ELICITING IT, but men seem to think we push A FUCKING CRYING BUTTON and bring tears on, simply because some men couldn't cry even if someone pierced them with a lance from side to side. So excuse me if it makes me violent when I hear or see some women being ridiculed for crying. Maybe I'm a bit psycho that way but I think everyone should be allowed to cry any time the crying comes to their face and, hell, even when it doesn't. That's all I have to say on that.

Now back to Edwards, whom I love and will work hard for.

40. I said that I'd had emotional moments, and I have, when talking about something
important to me. I had no trouble believing she could too, whether or not the TV cameras were running.

I think she transitioned from answering the questioner, which caught her a little emotionally off-guard -- to getting back on message with the rest of her comment. The stuff at the end was scripted, but not the emotion earlier.

28. Yeah, and when women use manipulative tears
it pisses me off because we get attacked for crying when it's just emotional release, and we get attacked for using tears as weapons when we aren't. So when Hillary cries for the first time in her professional life over a campaign, well sorry but I'm not buying. And it makes me mad that she'd do that and not think of how many women are going to have to deal with the aftermath.

53. There might be! But MOST DO NOT.
I'm getting really really really pissed off at men who think that crying is a manipulative ploy on the part of women. I came very close to punching in the mouth a man that said as much, and I'm a petite little woman who doesn't give the appearance of being violent. However, this brings me to the limit. I might not be able to hold myself back next time.

52. She faked cried, and faked it so badly there were no tears
That's what I've said all day long. It's a manipulative tear jerking episode - without tears.

I do not like the Clintons. I do not think their policies are good for this country or the world. I don't think they fought hard enough for labor rights and the rights of working income people. I think they helped Republicans frame issues in a way that made it so easy for them to push their agenda these last years. So no matter who was running against them, you bet I was going to fight it every step of the way. I'll keep fighting until people realize that theirs is the wrong path for this country.

57. You're right about that.
I saw a picture of what was really going down over at Daily Kos. The writer said that whole thing was staged with the tight close-up shots, like it was the view, but why would anyone stage an intimate sit down with so few people when the state is on the line?

Someone else asked when was the last time anyone had seen Hillary Clinton cry, about anything? And it's true.

She is pretending to be someone she's not. If that pretense includes softening up and pretending to choke up, then she'll do it.

I believe when Hillary cries, it's where no one can see her real tears. She's spent her entire life swallowing her emotions in public, her tears, her feelings, trying to 'be strong' in public. That doesn't go away just because the polls tell her to do so.

She is phony; but I believe it's because being phony was the only way to succeed, for her.

And when the phoniness doesn't work, she blames everyone but herself.

I will never get over how she dissed the entire state of Iowa for not putting her first. That is the real Hillary.

I want to see her lose tonight, lose New Hampshire, so that the real Hillary comes out.

Hillary wants the presidency for herself, not for the American people. Just as she wanted the New York Senate seat for herself and her ambitions, not for the people of New York. It was all so carefully planned....

until that damned Obama showed up. (Or is it planned, still?)

They had a big hit back in the Clinton era and they produced a movie he showed at the 92 convention. Can't think of their name. But this is exactly the kind of treacly barf they were good at.

It's better she has emotion than cold calculation. Clinton isn't my first choice, not that I feel she couldn't do the job, but rather there are too many voters that wouldn't vote for a woman no matter what. Really crazy isn't it, considering women generally do more and above what is expected of them.
