Freeper Panic: Obama is the anti-Reagan
I'm not exactly quoting here but, there's comments along the lines of: incredibly dangerous, so damn likable, scarier than Hillary, we'll lose in a landslide, concentrate on the House, and wish he was a Repub.

The anti-Reagan comment caught my attention - fear of a sea change. Of course it could be DUer's cheering up the proceedings ;)

They don't know how to attack him without it backfiring.

14. When have you known repukes to openly state that they are frightened of someone?
Buhwawawawawawa!

It isn't what they say...it is what they do. They don't have to say shit to be racist. What counts is when the voter gets into the booth. They don't have to attack him. They don't have to say shit.

Why...Cuz I know racist.

5. Romney just called him a "Senator Killer", implying that "Senator" McCain
couldn't beat him, and only "Governor" Romney could. Talked about how many had already fallen because of Obama.

He's scaring them.. all of them, that's for certain.

I had the same feeling when they were responding to the "how would you face Obama?" question at the debate - they suddenly got serious...

15. That's what I meant in my post yesterday
Obama is the Democratic Reagan, which implies he is the opposite that man was. That should tell you what a great president he will be.

they hate Hillary with all they have, so in part, they want to see her defeated. But they know Obama is much more formidable a candidate than Hillary. I could pull quote after quote after quote after quote to prove my point but I don't feel like doing it right now.

19. I check the place out every once in awhile, too
and they know that every one of their leading candidates has serious flaws that keep the Repukes from uniting behind a single one of them. Only hate for Hillary would unite them, and they feel if she were the nominee, they'd be able to exploit distrust of her in the middle to eke out a victory. Having Barack Obama as the nominee leaves them punching at shadows.

You're very brave. :-)

Tell me, has there been any racist drivel from the Freepers? Or are they at least being civil in that respect?

23. Not any extremely racist things said about him other than bringing up his middle name.
Edited on Tue Jan-08-08 12:29 AM by loveangelc
For the most part so far people there do not have a seething hate for Obama AL ALL like they do Hillary. I think I even read a poster saying she disagrees with him, but is such a charismatic and likeable guy. I see a lot of comments like putting Fred Thompson's views in someone like Obama they would have an ultimate candidate.
also, I've seen them talk about how to offset obama by thinking of a black VP to be the running mate for the Republicans lol.

24. Ah, yes - the dreaded "middle name"!
I cannot help but laugh at the thought of them trying to peddle an African American VP to look "more hip."

There is always that wacky ol' Alan Keyes.

26. the rightwing wanted Hillary
I think all these guys planned on running against Hillary Clinton. Then they could trot out all the old crap, plus some new and improved bullshit, engage in a little Clinton hate fest to rile up the usual suspects. It would be just like the good old days. And let's face it, a portion of the country is tired of the Clintons. Hell, many good Democrats are tired of the Clintons.

Obama brings none of the old baggage, appeals to independents and he inspires folks to expect better.
There is also the note of redemption he offers.
It's like saying to the world and to the American people who are sick of this government:
"Hi, Sorry, um, we have been kinda been acting like a real asses lately, we've let you down and yes, we've let ourselves down. So let's start fresh and try to make it right. My name is Barack Obama and I'm the new President of the United States."

I'm sure that has to worry them. They can't run on that. Is there anything on their side that has that sort of appeal, that sort of fundamental change? Those people have been running the same campaign since what, Dukakis?

It would be so much easier for them to simply scream "Clinton is Evil" and rile up the knuckle draggers.

But these bastards have never let me down so I'm sure they will turn their guns on Obama or Edwards. I just think it'll take them some time to really slime Obama. And I hope the American people have had enough of it. And then when they bash him, the so-called Anti-Reagan can borrow one from their Messiah
"Well, there they go again". I just hope the American people will realize that Obama is running a positive campaign against the same old assholes.

13. Ha, I've always said W was the anti-Reagan
Where Reagan brought in a lot of Democrats and made them open to accepting Republicans, W has made the Republican party a pariah for most people and is loathed by most of America.

Whatever Obama is, it ain't got nothin' to do with Reagan!

who is a Republican. She says he scares her, but she has no reason why. She knows he's going to win, but she says if she had a gun to her head, she'd vote for Hillary first.

20. Freepers are scared because he is black.
That impression causes them to dismiss the fact that after HRC, he is the most likely Democratic Reagan-like candidate. That's if you review his votes and non votes. Obama is not that progressive.

If Freepers were further able to shift to the charisma test, they would find that Obama does embody all that Reagan charm. They are fools NOT to support him.

So where do Democratic Obama supporters fit in to this equation.

They don't. I can only equate it with a "Jonestown" model of which the "youth" vote has no clue. For those old enough to remember, I AM NOT SAYING THAT OBAMA IS EVIL. I just think that he and his "Jonestown" followers are terribly naive. The GOP will never again concede any statesmanly compromise until they are forced to do so. Only two Democratic candidates have acknowledged that. Neither of them are Obama or Clinton.

Congrats on the bubble, wave or whatever. If it happens, it will bite all of us.

Bookmark it. I told you so.

22. Freepers are not afraid of Barack Obama...
Edited on Tue Jan-08-08 12:09 AM by The Night Owl
Generally speaking, Freepers are too stupid to be afraid of any Democratic candidate. Keep in mind that they went into the 2006 elections convinced that their side would win both the House and the Senate by a wide margin. Seriously... check out the posts made the night before election day. Hilarious stuff.

The opinions you should be paying attention to are those of people like Karl Rove and other members of the GOP apparatus. Of course, the the GOP apparatus, like some of the Freepers, are talking about how scared they are of Barack Obama, but they're saying that because they, rightly or wrongly, believe that Barack Obama is easy to beat.

27. It's real. MANY GOPers I work with are impressed with Obama
and may secretly vote for the guy. It really is something they should be worried about.

And they can thank their own party for absolutely f*cking up everything they touched as a major reason people are defecting.
