6. simply by saying "What?"
as in "Hope for what?" "Change to what?"

Some people hope that Seattle will win. Some hope the Packers will. The hopes and dreams of some are the defeat and disappointment of others. I hope I get the job means that I hope all those other people don't.

And change? Here's an example of change. A safe and dry New Orleans before Katrina. After Katrina it was changed into a disaster area. That is undeniably a 'change' and clearly shows the simple fact that ALL CHANGE IS NOT GOOD!

36. You are missing his point
If you two were politicians and the American people were seeing your debate the OP would win because its a positive message even if it has no substance behind it. What he is saying is you can't argue against positive things without sounding negative.

12. I'll admit I'm surprised that Obama's promise of generalized "change" has done so well -
Specific changes people can favor -- say, ending the war, taking insurance companies out of our healthcare, etc. But generalized "change"? Who likes that? I certainly don't. It's not in the nature of human beings to like that. Change is painful; we desire stability, longevity, certainty.

And I am trully FLUMMOXED by Obama's talk about being a "change agent" or "agent of change." It's pure corporate jargon! At work, the masses in the cubicles know that when management starts talking about "change agents" it means BAD things -- people are going to get fired, there will be more pointless meetings about nothing useful, the surviving employees will have to toss around plastic fish and pretend to like it, that kind of stuff.

19. Makes me all warm and fuzzy inside...
That we can abuse candidates for catch phrases and call words, claiming that they will do nothing... yet we refuse to see that many of the things that they are talking about were unheard of even four years ago. To have brought up ideas like universal health care, would have pushed you to the fringes. To have pushed aside beliefs based on abortion, gay rights, social security, or capital punishment stances and still to have votes, was not possible even in the last election. There are now republicans willing to vote for a man like Obama, a democrat, or a man like Rudy G, a thrice married, pro-gay rights, pro-abortion, anti-death penalty candidate. There has been movement. And there are reasons to hope and reasons to believe in change.

35. Well who made it seem like they cornered it?
Surely it must be their supporters? Otherwise, no one would care... like when Bush says that he will be remembered as one of the greatest presidents. It's just not going to happen. But in this instance it does.

47. I'm reminded of the really old Popeye cartoon where somebody
convinced Popeye he'd be better off without his spinach.Popeye threw the can away - it landed on the back of a truck and as the truck pulled away, the spinach can called out to Popeye, "You'll be sorry!"I want a knife fighter to go against the Republican Slime Machine.
But it seems like the Democrats want a pony called "Change," instead.

direction. I've been hoping for years that BushCo would be held accountable for their crimes, but they have not been. I've been wishing for change and I got it; it just keeps on getting worse. I want specifics, I want a solid plan.
