The wives
For once I am fond of two women who could be First Lady.

I really like Mrs. Edwards. She's intelligent, a good speaker and a compassionate woman. Seems honest as could be too.

I've only seen Mrs. Obama a couple of times, and only for a few minutes, but I think she'd be fine too. I liked her telling how Obama wasn't fresh as a daisy when he woke up and the kids avoided him....;)

I'm trying to picture Bill as First Lady but it's just not coming.

1. So only a woman can be married to a president?
That's what you just said, right?

Ain't you just precious.

2. You know what they meant.
They can't imagine BILL CLINTON, the former president of the United States of America, as the First whatever. That's all.

4. No, I didn't say that,
I said it would be hard to picture Bill as First Lady. He was President after all. I can't imagine him staying out of policy decisions and making plans for state dinners and Christmas decorations. He'd be playing the role he played on the film they made for the Natl Press Club Dinner the year he was leaving the White House. Nobody had time for him and he was making Hillary's lunch and washing the car. He'd actually have to live that life for at least 4 years.

And if Al Queda will attack when Hill is President, will she yell, "Hey Bill, I need you!!"?

He probably needs a bit more stimulation.

6. I disagree with one thing you say
That Mrs. Edwards "seems as honest as could be."

I'd like to believe that, but at least twice during this camapaign, I've been astounded to see her be outright dishonest.

The first time was when she said that her husband had never been part of the DLC. She was playing on the difference between the "Leadership Council" and the actual Senate Arm of the DLC ("New Senate Democrats"). Her husband was not only a member of the Senate arm of the DLC throughout his entire senate career, but he was one of the founders of the group. That gets a D from me on honesty.

Just last week, Elizabeth Edwards made a much more serious dishonest statement: well, a lie. She said at a public engagement that Obama's plan would not cover people like her, suggesting people with serious illnesses like cancer. In point of fact, the very first bullet point on the web page for Obama's health plan clearly states that insurers would be prohibited from denying insurance to people with pre-existing conditions, and elsewhere that they could not charge out-of-line premiums for such people.

Honest? I used to think so, but I no longer do.

7. Haven't looked into the health care issue you mention...
But I think he has changed his mind about the DLC.

One reason is Bonior, have mentioned him before, was majority leader in the House - was against NAFTA and that put him against Clinton. Bonior is one Edwards chief adviosrs, and is still against NAFTA. They plan to do away with it, so they say, if Edwards gets in.

9. Has Bonior convinced him to oppose abortion yet?
Bonior, I hope you know, is completely anti-abortion.

As for the DLC, amazing how many things John Edwards has "changed his mind" about. Like, everything.

Sorry if I'm sounding bitter: I'm tired and have lost all patience for the slavish reverence people around here have for a politician who seems to have done nothing progressive whatsoever in his life, except talk in the last year or two.

10. Alas
Dennis Kucinich is my real love, but he hasn't a prayer. Maybe if we all contact the nominee and ask, Dennis will be appointed to some cabinet post. He certainly deserves one.

At least Edwards is against NAFTA . . .
