2. Al Campanis, Jimmy The Greek, Don Imus, And Rush Limbaugh Have All Lost Their Jobs For Making Racist
Edited on Tue Jan-08-08 07:35 AM by DemocratSinceBirth
Comments...

When is the last time a man lost a job for making sexist comments?

I point to the current news...Isiah Thomas embarrassed the New York Knicks organization and cost them millions of dollars when he sexually harased Anucha Browne Sanders:

"At one meeting meant to resolve any issues between Sanders and Thomas, the two-time NBA champion guard lashed out at her by announcing, "Don't forget, you f——— bitch, I'm the president of this f———-team," Nix said his friend told him.

Browne Sanders also told Nix, he testified, that Thomas had asked her in March 2004, "What the f—- is your job? What are your job responsibilities, you f———- ho?"

By the end of the year, though, Nix testified that he saw Thomas embracing Browne Sanders in Madison Square Garden after a Knicks' victory — and watched as his friend pushed the coach away."

Isiah Thomas Still has his job and he's a lousy coach to boot...

16. I raise you Bob Packwood and Bill Clinton.
Isaiah's coaching skills are irrelevant (unless you want to argue that success on the court is an acceptable shield, a la Bill Bilichick, the Patriots, charges of and substantial punishment for cheating, and his Coach of the Year award after all was said and done).

Isaiah is not getting off free and without blemish in this case of black man against black woman. No feminist group is supporting him, that I'm aware of. I don't know what's going on with black groups. Perhaps you can provide some illumination on that one.

Meanwhile, Bob Packwood and Bill Clinton sexually harass women and the women who bring the charges are the ones who are blemished -- made invisible -- while powerful feminists decide voting and legislative influence is more important than supporting victims.

3. It's so frustrating, isn't it?
Sexism is pernicious and harder to combat among progressives than racism. I don't know how to deal with it anymore.

4. The problem with you folks is..
... you ASSUME that the problem people have with a certain female candidate is her gender, when in FACT it is her position on the issues, her continual lame attempts to spin her past votes, and her general untrustworthyness.

These qualities are not gender based. Most folks find them equally repugnant in a man or a woman.

6. I'm not defending..
.. those sorts of comments, they suck. I could care less about her breasts or anything else on her body.

But every time I turn around here folks are crying "sexist" at anyone who doesnt' like HRC. That's complete and utter bullshit.

But a person, not you, has to be willfully ignorant not to see the sexism at the heart of the criticism of Ms. Clinton among some people...

9. ""Some" is a mighty nebulous number..
.. and it would be pointless to argue with that.

Is "some" 50%, 25%, 5% what, how many is some?

Some, yes, and it is quite possible that for every person that doesn't like HRC because she's a woman there is one who supports her only BECAUSE she's a woman.

It is a waste of time to get wound up in unmeasurable bullshit.

10. There Are Some Things That Can't Be Quantified
Folks aren't going to say they don't like Hillary because she's a womam and their dislike might be so latent they don't even realize it...

8. There are legitimate reasons not to support her
and there are illegitimate reasons not to support her.

I don't support her because she's too hawkish and corporatist, but I also sympethize with the fact that she's running in a sexist society. Seriously, when's the last time you saw a man asked if they were likeable enough?

Nixon? Bush I? Rudy? Dick Cheney?

If she was a man saying what she's been saying and acting how she's been acting, he would be called tough (maybe with a softer side), and not called out for being unlikeable.

11. To be honest..
... Bush** got "elected" on his likeability and nothing more.

It's sad, but I really believe it's true.

Of course, when someone you "like" keeps pissing in your Cheerios, you don't like him any more.

I don't think the Bush* brand is forever tarnished...

Bush Pere got 37% of the vote in 92 and the brand survived...

I wouldn't be surprised to see a Jeb Bush candidacy in 2012 and 2016...

18. I don't believe that this is the truth
I think that BOTH are rampant. Have you forgotten the devastation that was Katrina and how it predominantly affected poor Black people.
Have you forgotten how QUICKLY those folks were forgotten?
Sexism exists. Yes it does. There IS a glass ceiling. No doubt about it. Every single day women are sexually harassed on the job. Every single day women don't receive promotions that are due them. Every single day sexism occurs--which is WHY trivializing it pisses me off.
I believe that Hillary could have easily broken that glass ceiling if she had played more to the base of THIS party instead of the base of the republican party.
The folks I know don't dislike Hillary because she is a woman. They dislike her because of her corporate agenda/DLC stance.
