Obama's "...security now rivals that of President Bush"
The man has guts, you have to give that to him at the very least.

snip-
MANCHESTER, N.H. — Secret Service presence has increased for Sen. Barack Obama since his dramatic win in Iowa, amid fears over the safety of the man seeking to become America's first black president.

1. Good. I'm wary of anything the Moonie Times
says though.

It's the moonie times, but the article didn't seem too looney.

2. But an un-credentialed TV show host can walk right up to him at a NH event?
Yeah, that rivals *...

5. Exactly,
and Michale Moore could get withing yelling distance of Bush.

Hell, a Member of Congress couldn't get as close to Bush as BillO did.

10. In all fairness, he didn't walk right up to him. He was off shaking hands in the near distance w/
agents all around him. It was his campaign person that O'liely walked right up to.

With that said, I really wish the SS would have tackled BO and dragged him out kicking and screaming like a baby, LOL.

3. It's a shame
I wonder if Hillary and Huckabee are getting equal Secret Service protection too or does the Secret Service know of threats against Obama?

7. Hillary does
as former first lady. Not sure about Huck. Article says the campaign 'wont't comment on security.'

4. Hogwash.
Obama enters crowds which aren't vetted to the extreme. He shakes hands with strangers.

8. Powell
Edited on Tue Jan-08-08 11:11 AM by Araxen
This is exactly why Powell never ran. It's pretty dangerous time right now for Obama sadly. Especially if he wins NH today. The closer it gets to him winning the nomination possible the more of a threat to his life, imo. It's just the sad truth of things. I don't think anything will happen but you can never be too cautious.

no helicopters, sharp-shooters, etc...

11. I was at a rally in NYC and security was pretty half-assed.
It was in Washington Square Park and everybody had to go through metal detectors, except that there were only like 2 detectors for the entire crowd of 20 thousand people. Because there were so many people who couldn't get in, right when Obama was about to start talking, they just gave up the screening and let everyone swarm into the plaza. If they were serious about his safety, they obviously could have handled it better.

14. Same in Durham
Where I saw him. Not as big a crowd though. I think they increased the agents after Iowa though.

15. I hope so.
Between the white-power wackos and the despondent freeps, I think a lot of nuts are going to get shaken loose from the tree.

13. Love the Lorax
A current fave of my kids. I've been tempted to post excerpts of that book here, it's such a great environmentalist manifesto.
