Large voter turnout reported

By PAT GROSSMITH
New Hampshire Union Leader Staff
1 hour, 13 minutes ago

MANCHESTER – Long lines of people formed inside some polls this morning minutes after they opened at 6 a.m. for the New Hampshire Presidential Primary.

Louis Gosselin, Ward 6 moderator, said election officials expected about 150 people to vote each hour at St. Pius X on Candia Road.

Instead, about 300 people each hour were casting ballots. By 8 a.m., 602 people had voted. About 70 new voters were registered.

"I believe if it continues this way we definitely will set a record," said Gosselin.

4. Unfortunately, some Democrats will spin this as a bad thing.
It's probably the media's fault that people are voting.

8. Obama's speech tonight should be all about who is turning out to vote for him
and telling Democrats who want a meaningful victory in November and beyond need to get behind his candidacy now.

14. Goddamn voters!
No, turn-out is good. I just am a little uneasy when life-long Rs voting in the D primary which is allowed in NH.

10. Good news for Democrats!
That is great news overall, that people are getting excited about voting and having a say on what goes on in their own country. I also think this is good news for Democrats.

16. You don't know much about NH. Good job demonstrating it.
44% of NH voters are indies. And it looks like they'll be voting for dems in a major way. Repukes are voting for repukes. Dems are voting for dems.

17. I'm a native New Englander.
Like I said, it is what that Nightline story suggested. 44% for undeclared is probably in line with the rest of the country.

20. We've got picture perfect weather for getting voters out.
The fog has lifted, the sky is blue and the sun is bright. Temps headed toward 60. I'll be heading out to vote shortly.
