Edwards Supporters Refuse to Shake Clinton's Hand

January 08, 2008 10:29 AM

ABC News' Eloise Harper Reports: In a sign of just how contentious the Democratic primary in New Hampshire has become, Senator Hillary Clinton tried to greet supporters of former Sen. John Edwards, D-N.C., this morning in Nashua, New Hampshire who were screaming, "Status quo has got to go! Status quo has got to go!"

Clinton stuck her arm out to shake their hands and the Edwards' supporters refused to shake the former first lady's hand. So Clinton patted one of the supporters on the shoulder and moved on.

Edwards described Clinton as representing the "status quo" during the ABC News debate in New Hampshire Saturday, arguing there should be an unfiltered debate between himself and Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., -- two agents of change, he said.

Later this morning, Clinton was walking along a line of supporters in Derry, New Hampshire when she crossed a woman who was holding up a Mitt Romney sign. The woman started yelling at Clinton to move her bus. "Voters can't get in because your bus is in the way."

The woman was pointing at the bus and seemed flustered. Clinton told the woman they would move it.

and wins the whole damned thing. And the more I see posts like yours, the more vehement I feel about it.

26. By all means go ahead...
Maybe that "bipartisan coalition" of corporate whores (Hagel, Bloomberg, Nunn) that is considering putting forth and independent candidate can make her their candidate and you'll be able to vote for her in the GE.

4. Not acceptable behavior at all, IMHO. Supporters need to support their candidate...
not denigrate other candidates or their supporters.

5. That's a shame they would represent their candidate in such a way.
John Edwards would NOT approve. To tell the truth, I don't even think Romney would have approved of the behavior of his supporter either. Sounds like Senator Clinton handled it gracefully.

11. Don't worry. She'll just hire some plants pretending to be Edwards supporters
and they'll shake her hand.

The Clintons -- both of them, husband and wife -- are a trip. Put nothing past them, at this point.

25. Even after the fake tears in the fake coffee shop setting?
Edited on Tue Jan-08-08 11:53 AM by Anouka
I'm sorry, I can't stand fake tears. I can't stand it from men (Mitt Romney, I'm looking at you), and I can't stand it from women.

Women have used tears for too long to get what they want, it's an emotional appeal -- not unlike the offer of cleavage or spread legs. It's the same thing. That's why it ticks me off Hillary would pull this in a staged setting. It's not feminist to pull this, it's insiduously anti-feminist.

Like, you can't convince people by your merits so you have to come up with a distraction and hope people forget that you are without merit.

It's one thing if Hillary were driven to tears candidly. But not in a staged setting surrounded by tv cameras and plants.

Hillary is untrustworthy, and her sloppy use of feminism tangled with feminine-as-fragile is insulting to me.

yet ignore the message of the candidate. It goes to show you the insanity.
They should have shook her hand--but the sad thing is...had they shaken her hand, JRE would NOT have even been mentioned.
