We have to have a Democratic President and a fillibuster-proof Senate. The latter can either come from electing enough Dems that the Republicans are irrelevant or winning so many races that the Republicans who are up in 2010 know that to stall the pull-out is political suicide.

7. The only way out is to simply leave. And Americans will not push for that

until the body count (US, of course, others do not matter) gets much higher.

Unless the grim reaper starts visiting many more homes, most people are just fine with what is going on.

None of the top-three will do anything to stop the carnage until they are 100% sure it would not cost them a single vote. And reaching across the aisle will not bring more peaceful persons to the fold. Just the opposite.
