For those who have reservations about Obama
I support Obama, but his overzealous and sometimes mean supporters scare me a little. Nonetheless, the best political reason I think to support a moderate like Obama is that he may well have huge coattails, getting tens of thousands of new voters to register and participate in Democratic politics. If Obama continues to do well, the Democratic Party will pick up a large number of Congressional and local seats in the next election. The excitement surrounding Obama is because his message, unlike Kerry's, Gore's, and even Bill Clinton's, is a simple, easy-to-remember message of hope and change. It's as simple as Reagan's message of family values, so it connects with people who re not politically involved or interested. Obama is threatening to make the Democratic Party as powerful as it was in the Johnson years, and in turn the Republican Party will start to seem moribund as it wrestles with the problems created by its bigotry.

1. Just because moderates or independents vote for him in the GE, don't count on
independents voting downticket......voters in this country like a divided house. Clinton only had both houses of congress for 2 years, the rest of the time was hotly divided.

2. I haven't been an Obama fan.
But you're right when you say, "his overzealous and sometimes mean supporters scare me a little." In the past few days, they've completely insured that I'll be against Obama for the duration.

Brown shirts give me a tummy ache.

3. I'm not an Obama supporter only because..
.. I am absolutely opposed to any sort
of corporatism or religionism in
government.

I want a government of the people, for
the people, and by the people.. exclusively.

5. That's not one of my reservations about Obama -

what concerns me the most is because of his relative lack of exposure to the WH goings on, he really doesn't have an accurate understanding of what he'll be facing if he does win the Presidency.

EDIT to add (not that anybody cares) that I have what I consider serious concerns about each of the current candidates -- I'm not singling out O.
