Disappointing stat about Democrats (41% think personal qualities more important than issues)

I expected this among Republicans, who in fact do pay attention to personal qualities than issues, but 41% of Democrats? Too many.

6. Personal qualities aren't just looks, race/gender, "family values," crap like that.

If a voter perceives two or more candidates' positions on the issues to be substantially similar, or at least equally acceptable, then personal qualities will come into play in a big way.

For instance, in 2004, I voted for Dean, even though I probably agreed more with Kucinich, because I liked some personal qualities of Dean...his pragmatism and what I perceived as his ability to work with people with whom he disagreed. Kucinich is/was more of an idealist, and he seemed as though he'd let the perfect become the enemy of the good...these are personal qualities, not issues, that swayed my vote.
