Do Obama and Clinton stop in Nevada?
Or do they go straight to South Carolina tommorow?

There are valuable delegates to get there and one would think that the race there is close enough where either of them shouldn't concede it. South Carolina is a week after Nevada. Do Obama and Clinton spend a few days in Nevada or do they go straight to South Carolina?

1. From a strategic point of view
Probably send surrogates to Nevada, but the candidates themselves head to South Carolina.

2. Nevada is KEY
Edited on Wed Jan-09-08 12:06 AM by origin1286
Nevada is absolutely key for Obama.

Obama is the front runner in South Carolina still and can conceivably get to South Carolina the week before the primary and make up any ground in that week. Blacks are still going to break heavily for Obama. I wouldn't be surprised if Hillary's victory causes more blacks to show. "The whites tryin' to hold us down! We won't stand for it" type thing. I think SC still goes to Obama by over 15%.

But if Obama loses Nevada, then will be in trouble. Hillary will simply play the low expectations game. Actually, if Hillary wins Nevada she can afford a minimal presence in SC in order to keep the image that she knows she can't win there.

Obama wins Nevada and then wins SC, Hillary is back on the ropes.

7. Momentum
1 state doesn't change much.

But if you start piling up 2 or 3 states in a row, momentum becomes huge.

Obama has to stop Hillary's momentum in Nevada. If she wins back to back primaries, the pressure is on.

Obama needs as many wins pre-2/5 in order to get a bounce in those states.

13. Hillary is favored for Nevada
Reid's son is the campaign manager there. The culinary union was going to give him the edge he needed. And in the south, I'm reading the black leaders still telling voters not to get their hopes up and stick with the Clintons. Even if he wins states with a black vote, it'll be marginalized the way minority votes always are. I don't see any way for Obama to truly go forward. He needed that union.

3. from my chair in las vegas....
i would advise they go to SC first then stop by NV a little later,

they do have a week or two to work on it

the real prizes are on 2/5

best not to spend to much time on either NV or SC

this is national thing baby

4. good question ...haven't seen either of them here in awhile ...Edwards
was here last in the Reno area.

Obama and Clinton were in Las Vegas recently. As well as Reno.

Who knows? But I do know our caucus is January 19.

5. they would be crazy not to show up in Nevada. There's a LOT going on there
big money in certain pockets, enough delegates to be interesting...thoughts toward it being pivotal in general election, and Harry Reid being there.

so NO I don't think either of them skips Nevada.

8. You are right
They at least have to show up in Nevada. As you said, there are too many delegates to ignore. But obviously South Carolina should be Hillary and Obama's main target. I wonder if they'll start in South Carolina tommorow and then go to Nevada as Jan 19 nears. I think that would be a sound strategy.

10. I think the union endorsement is key
I see three possibilities: They endorse Obama, stay neutral, or endorse Clinton, in order of likelihood.

Endorse Obama, and Hillary likely skips Nevada to play down the expectations game. She then focuses on not getting blown out in SC.
Stay neutral, and both fight it out in Nevada.
Endorse Hillary, and Obama likely skips it to milk SC for everything it's worth.

12. They will both go on to Super Tuesday
They both have enough money and there is no reason not to.

I don't know what Edwards is planning to do.
