What's the story with Richardson?
Why is he hanging around? When is he going away?

At this point, his candidacy appears to be pointless.

1. Last I heard, the campaign was heading home to figure our what went wrong.
My guess is since Hillary did well last night, he will bow out soon.

9. No, he does not.

He's said over and over again he's simply not interested in that job. It would be a waste of time and talent and he'd rather finish his term as Governor.

Now if she gets elected and offers him SOS, that is another thing, entirely. He's one of the few who can undo the mess left by Powell, Rice and Bolton.

I told folks on this board to listen to Gore when he said he wasn't getting into the race. I'm telling you all to listen to Richardson when he says he isn't interested in being Vice President. Sometimes, politicians tell us the truth.

3. If the point is winning, then his candidacy is just as pointless as Edwards'
And I say this as someone who would love to see Richardson or Edwards as president.

7. Not even close
Edwards BEAT Hillary in Iowa if you remember. And he placed well in NH. There is still the possibility he could place second in the next contest which could help him soldier on to a comeback. I think that's a possibility, you just never know. Look at Hillary's win yesterday.

10. SC was the ONLY state that Edwards won in 2004, with 45%.
Because he put all of his eggs in the IA basket, he is polling about @15% there now. Even if the polls suck butt again and he DOUBLES what is predicted, he would likely come in damn near 3rd place. I would love for Edwards to be the nominee, but the optimism around here gets a little delusional for my tastes. He is a distant 3rd everywhere. IMO, this is one of the reasons my money is on Clinton to win the nom. Obama has a much harder time winning with Edwards in the mix. Again, imo.

11. I just don't know
Things change so quickly, he really could become the nominee in the end. It's just not that predictable. Look at Bill Clinton in 92.

4. Well he's getting about four or five times the votes Kucinich is
so it's not like he's the first one who should go. Is he going to win? Nah I've always admitted that is preposterously unlikely - but it's no great onus to wait until we have a massive portion of the country voting less than four weeks from now surely?

A long shot possibility is a delegate count so close that he imagines he might be able to play some sort of kingmaker role, but I doubt it. My guess is Feb 6th.
