I got a bit of "perspective" today.
I got some perspective today, on a couple of things.

First of all, I'm a senior in high school, and the reaction to Hillary winning NH was...not good. The more and more young people become concious of this election, the more and more favor obama. There's this just visceral antipathy towards hillary clinton, though when pressed they can't explain a since policy of hers with which they disagree. I don't understand it. This seems to me to be a confirmation of what has been said elsewhere, that there's something about Obama that inspires young people, that Sen. Clinton seems to lack.

Secondly, and more importantly, I was able to step back a bit from the candidate bickering on DU today. A teacher was flat out bashing the clintons, and even implied that Bill and Hillary stayed together as a political arrangement for her to eventually become president. Now I am by no means a Hillary supporter, but I couldn't help defend her on this. It just seemed so wrong to sit back let someone criticize an honest, progressive Democratic U.S senator, despite my personal feelings about her being our nominee. And that's what made me think. I'm guilty of taking potshots at candidates now and then, and Sen. Clinton was certainly not the least frequent target. But we're all democrats here. And we all want the same things. And the majority of us, once we have a nominee, will stand up and fight our hardest to get he or she elected. So maybe we should stop clawing each other to death over Hillary crying or Obama's "wave" ending or Edwards being out, etc, and realize that whoever we get in Nov., and it WILL be a democrat, will be better than what we've had for the past 8 years.

4. That may be true.
And I don't doubt that that's at least part of it. But there is something about Obama that just generally excites people beyond the "he's a democrat" idea.

7. And excitement, of course, is the most important quality in a leader.
You might want to check out some of the leaders who caused "excitement."

8. Of course it's not the most important quality in a leader.
But I (and many others) believe there's much more to Sen. Obama than that, and I'm not even supporting him. Whether you think so or not is your decision.

5. Yeah, but I'm sure all of that will go away in the GE
If she is the nominee.

3. From the mouths of babes...
This wizened old bag is abashed and ashamed. You are entirely right, and we should do some self-searching and determine why we sometimes feel it is necessary to jab the other candidates, rather than sharing a hope for our future.

Thanks, Slick!
