because of control of the Oil and who do you think is most likely to do such a thing?

For some reason I have a gut feeling one or two of the candidates might just pull this kind of crap.

On Edit, here is why this crosses my mind:

Did any of the candidates soften their tone after talking to Bush?

8. This is why I am concerned

It seems I heard later that she softened her tone on Iraq after those talks. The others may have as well.

7. Not surprised. Neither Clinton or Obama has promise such a thing
Edited on Sun Jan-13-08 09:00 PM by unc70
They only promise to being a withdrawl plan and complete if within about a year, but no promise to withdraw all troops. Hell, they each plan to continue operations against "terrorism" indefinitely -- years!!

Most all the other candidates have committed to get out quickly -- DK, JE, BR, MG ...

10. Let's assume Hillary becomes the 44th President of the USA...
Democratic chicken hawk Hillary Clinton's Kyl-Lieberman vote to give Bush the authority to exercise "all options on the table" on Iran is the latest example of her support of a neocon/neolib imperialist foreign policy. Like all chicken hawks, Hillary confuses "strength" with the use of brute military force, rather with the strength shown by great peacemakers like the late Archbishop Romero or Nobel Peace Laureate Desmond Tutu.

It is highly unlikely that as President Hillary would deviate one iota from the corporatist and imperialist agenda she followed in the US Senate. Hillary will never raise the issue of justice for Palestinians, much less pursue a Middle East settlement that would require Israel to give up Arab land taken in the 1967 War. Hillary will continue the disastrous US policy of enabling Israel's imperialism in the region, including maintaining an occupation force in Iraq as a counter to Iran.

In Latin America, the wife of the man that kept the School of the Americas open, will pursue the Bush policies with renewed vigor. Hillary will unleash the CIA and the military to reestablish American hegemony in the region.

In light of the reactionary policies of the second Clinton Administration, what will progressives be doing during Hillary's presidency? Here are some of the highlights:

March 2009 - National antiwar marches on the 6th anniversary of the start of the Iraq War.

October 2009 - National antiwar marches on the 7th anniversary of Iraq War Resolution.

March 2010 - National antiwar marches on the 7th anniversary of the start of the Iraq War.

October 2010 - National antiwar marches on the 8th anniversary of Iraq War Resolution.

March 2011 - National antiwar marches on the 8th anniversary of the start of the Iraq War.

October 2011 - National antiwar marches on the 9th anniversary of Iraq War Resolution.

March 2012 - National antiwar marches on the 9th anniversary of the start of the Iraq War.

October 2012 - National antiwar marches on the 10th anniversary of Iraq War Resolution.

16. No, it's not.
Of course, they all have plans that they like to talk about. Frankly, at this point, their words mean nothing to me. NOTHING. Their actions mean more. At least Edwards has acknowledged that voting to allow the war was a mistake. I DO have some hope that his change of heart is sincere. It's just hope, though. Unless he is elected, I'll never really know.

Based on past record, the only one of them who has consistently stood up to end war and bring troops home is Kucinich.

17. Heard a Hillary soundbyte the other night on KGO San Francisco...
and she said this very clearly: If I am elected president, I'll start the troops home within 60 days.

She didn't mean all the troops, but at least get the withdrawal moving.

That is something I can hold her toes to the fire for...and I am a Hillary supporter.

Either we pull out, or the draft will have to be activated. The draft will wake up not only the college students, but their parents.

19. Here is what each of them said in the debaters, with comments
Right after the debate last October. That was the debate where the next day the headlines were things like "All Leading Dems: Combat troops in Iraq past 2013". This was based on the question about removing "all troops" by 2013. Neither Clinton, Obama, or Edwards would make that promise. Later in the debate their positions became clearer. Edwards would leave several thousand troops to guard the embassy and such. Both Clinton and Obama leave an unspecified number of troops in Iraq and would continue indefinitely operations for anti-terrorism. They try to hide this behind clever rhetoric, but they don't really get out of Iraq. The disconnect between their lofty goals and their promise to immediately begin withdrawing troops and those pesky details are stunning.

The linked thread, while long, do a good job exposing the issues with the details of various programs. My journal has a couple of excerpts from that thread.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x3578214

BTW there are two separate threads that relate to each other.

If anyone thinks that their candidate is misrepresented, please post and I will be glad to take a closer look.
