Obama, trailing by 40 points among New York blacks last month leads now. Hillary leads overall by 20
-snip-

White House hopeful Barack Obama is surging among New York's African-American voters, wiping away Hillary Clinton's once-overwhelming advantage, an exclusive Daily News poll shows.

Obama, fueled by a decisive primary win in predominantly white Iowa, has eliminated Clinton's lead in the black voting bloc and is now ahead of her, 42% to 40%, our new poll shows.

That's a dramatic dip from the 40-point edge Clinton had among black voters in a Siena College survey just last month - before Obama's Iowa coup and his narrow defeat in New Hampshire.

-snip-

She also leads by 32 points among whites, according to the poll. Clinton's lead across all races varies by generation, with a greater edge over Obama among voters over 50.

2. John Edwards does not exist; Hispanics do not exist
Notice how Hispanics, the largest minority in New York, I believe, is not included in the graph.
Neither is John Edwards.

5. Why would they be?
When African American voters were being polled? I'm sure they'll get around to polling Hispanics. Maybe they'll even hit Chinatown.

7. They gave Edwards only one sentence and ignored him in the graph
And it was right before they talked about the margin of error. :eyes:

Democratic rival John Edwards lags a distant third in New York at 8%.

12. NYC?
The numbers referenced might be for NY State, rather than NCY; it doesn't specify. At any rate, NYC is 26% African American and 27% Latino (mostly Puerto Rican, or Afro-Caribbean American), so NYC might be dicey for Hillary.

13. Hispanics who are Democrats are overwhelmingly for Hillary.
I can tell you that for a fact because that's the area in which I work getting out the vote in NJ & NY. Most hispanics are Democrats, except for the Cuban block, and most love the Clintons.

6. And will win New York by a big margin
The reason I found the article and the black numbers interesting is because of what has happened over the past week. Not all of it is because of the racial allegations. Some of it is because he won Iowa. What has happened recently definitely played a role, though.

I forgot the link. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2008/01/13/2008-01-13_barack_obama_leading_among_new_york_blac.html

14. Yeah, I saw it too.
I actually bought the News today to read that article. It only refers to NYC and in the long run it won't matter much, she'll win NY handily.

10. Such wide swings in poll numbers say one thing
They're not reliable and have a large margin of error. The real answer is somewhere in the middle.
