A Note on Corporate Donations(Hillary and Obama both dirty)
Edited on Mon Jan-14-08 09:22 AM by Zynx
I've looked at the breakdown of Corporate Donations and I have to say that neither of our top two candidates are anything approaching clean. I use Romney for a comparison

http://www.opensecrets.org/pres08/select.asp?Ind=F07

Securities and Investment
Hillary: $4.7 million
Obama: $4.5 million
Romney(the quintessential corporate candidate): $3.6 million

Commercial Banks
Hillary: $935,000
Obama: $865,000
Romney: $600,000

Big Pharma
Hillary: $269,000
Obama: $262,000
Romney: $260,000

Hedge Fund and Private Equity
Hillary: $980,000
Obama: $976,000
Romney: $947,000

Our party needs to be changed from within because our candidates won't fundamentally alter this situation.

3. All elections are bought and paid for by someone
The only question is: By whom? Those making the purchase will be the ones who pull the Congressman's/Senator's/President's puppet strings. I find it very, very sad that the people are unable to out-bid corporate special interests.

4. What's really sad is I think both Hillary and Obama could have gotten along
without big corporate money, but took it in anyway.

7. Wonder if this will open the clinton/obama supporters eyes?
Two corporate puppets running against each other....sickening.
Great find, thanks!

8. No problem.
So far I have yet to see anybody attempt to defend either of them.

9. LOL good point. We need to keep this kicked to make sure

11. The problem is systemic
It is the way our system is set up. Corporations have the same rights as people, thus, we have what amounts to a bribery system. Until we have public financing of elections, we will have corporate elections. This is because candidates have to take corporate money in order to have enough money to be competitive. If we had publicly financed elections, Kucinich would most likely be the front runner.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buckley_v._Valeo">Until this law is struck down, we are stuck with corporate elections.
