Chelsea Clinton steps into California spotlight to rally for mother
(01-13) 20:09 PST San Francisco -- Chelsea Clinton, who has lived largely out of the spotlight after a White House childhood, was in San Francisco on Sunday on one of her first cautious solo flights into the 2008 political arena as a campaign surrogate for her mother, Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The Clinton campaign chose California, crucial Democratic territory, for this weekend's debut of the daughter of former President Bill Clinton and the senator from New York.

Until now, Chelsea Clinton has largely limited her appearances in her mother's campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination to posing for photos and shaking hands alongside her mother and her grandmother, Dorothy Rodham, 87, in early primary states.

But on Sunday, she hit the Bay Area as the star of a surprise campaign swing, attending church services at San Francisco's Glide Memorial Church before visiting her mother's Howard Street campaign headquarters, where she was surrounded by crowds of eager volunteers making calls on the senator's behalf.

She also stopped at the House of Nanking for Chinese food and two college locations - Hastings College of the Law and her alma mater, Stanford University - where she met with students and took questions regarding the Clinton campaign.

to campaign for his side of the *EXCLUSIVE* Two-Family Political Executive Branch stranglehold after we've ENDURED two more DLC Executive Branch terms?

18. A reference to Rush Limbaugh's insult in 1992.
The cruelty of that remark about young Chelsea -- who isn't awkward at 12? -- led me to look it up.
Typical of bullies everywhere, Limbaugh now denies he said it, according to Wikipedia:

On November 6, 1992, three days after her father won the elections, when Chelsea was still in braces, Rush Limbaugh said the following on his television show: "Everyone knows the Clintons have a cat; Socks is the White House cat. But did you know there is also a White House dog?"<6><7> He then pointed to a video monitor, which switched to a picture of Chelsea. Limbaugh has claimed that it was a technical error.

Technical error, my ass. It was a right wing meme at the time. I remember National Review doing the same thing at the time.

It is a satisfying outcome: Chelsea now is a lovely young woman and Limbaugh is shown for the gutless right-wing bully he is.

21. That's bullshit
That show was recorded ahead of time. If it was an error, there was more than enough time to correct it before it went to air (as is done with other pre-taped shows).

she was very engaging and the crowd obviously loved her. I was surprised how much she spoke with us, but not surprised at the quality of her discourse.

Well raised I think.

14. Yes, in the new and improved USA, "Greed is God" = Hedge Fund six figure salary trumps
humanitarian efforts. But but she's composed and thoughtful so that makes her "life decisions" to fatten up more corporations alright.

Sure, as long as the package is pretty and not threatening, Chelsea is gold.

BS. She's a product of *Greed is God* just like her parents. Look to see Chelsea and George P. Bush dating because we really have two parties which constitute a right wing duopoly.

It's only the "wedge issues" and "personalities" that make a difference with our political strategists being masters at info-tainment.

30. If I ever meet an American who denies to themselves all...
If I ever meet an American who denies to themselves all the "New and Improved" trappings of a consumer society (e.g., I-pods, game consoles, DVD's, the latest best-seller, home computers, a television, flatware, etc.), that would indeed be the ONLY American I'd ever met who didn't subscribe in one way or another to the "Greed is God" concept.

That would be a person who could maintain intellectual consistency whilst telling me of the short comings of another person's humanitarian efforts. That person would have my respect for giving up a huge portion of their paycheck to feed the hungry rather than buying an MP3 or a computer game.

OTOH, a person who owns an I-pod or a television and berates someone else for their good works is simply not examining their own conscious very well I imagine...

Give "the sisterhood meme" a rest already?

Chelsea is campaigning for her parents. Chelsea's no better or worse than any of the other Presidential Campaigner's Children.

What lows are you going to attempt to play-off of the feminine gender next, perhaps through "A lifetime Special Mini-Series."

27. Like Obama fans don't gush over his family
That's what fans do, they gush. It's repulsive to non-fans, but there's been plenty of gushing threads about Michelle and Elizabeth. I remember one thread just about what a cute couple Barack and Michelle make. I think this couple is cuter, personally:

My family lives there and I could imagine here sitting down for lunch with them and very likely being able to intelligently answer all their questions just like her mom.

Thanks.
