IOW, par for the course.

The only difference between now and 30 years ago is that we have teh intarwebz, which means that instead of arguing with our neighbors, we can argue with the entire planet in real time.

Add in the 24/7 news cycle/coverage and there you have it.

Things are no better or no worse than they were before. They're just larger.
