I'm also Irish-American. Often people in the Italian community of the city I grew up in would insist I was from Italy.

23. mixtures of oppressed groups

I had a friend in college who was descended from French-Canadians, American Indians, African slaves, Mexican immigrants, Irish immigrants, and a couple of others I can't recall. She joked about being a descendant of most of the oppressed groups in North America, though she didn't bring it up unless people asked about her unusual last name or were talking about their own ancestors. Noone could guess where she was from geographically or ethnically from her looks. Lovely, beautiful woman.
