I always felt that Oprah's endorsement would backfire!!!
Women vs. Oprah - No Joe for McCain - Poor Huck
Inside Report by Robert Novak

Women vs. Oprah

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The absence of Oprah Winfrey from the frantic four last days of the New Hampshire primary campaign after her heavy schedule in Iowa backing Sen. Barack Obama may be traced to heavy, unaccustomed post-Iowa abuse of the popular entertainment superstar by women.

Winfrey did not publicize it, but her Website was swamped with complaints after she went to Iowa. The principal complaint was that she betrayed women by not supporting Sen. Hillary Clinton. The criticism was described as personal.

Several of these critics identified themselves as African-Americans, indicating that gender is more important than race for many people.

1. hmm. how to reconcile this with the fact that he won
the women's vote in Iowa, is doing marginally better with women in SC and is doing just fine in NV. OK, she won the women's vote in NH, but he's hardly doing badly among women voters. She is starting to do quite badly among African American voters.

Your candidate and her supporters didn't expect such a challenge from Obama. It has you guys really rattled. That's for sure.

I'm not sure how that's backfiring.

4. Yup, almost every woman I talked to said the same thing, how they felt she sold out women
by supporting a male candidate friend of hers. Many of the same women I talked to are also convinced that Oprah supported Bush last time, too, instead of Kerry because she didn't want to get hit in the pocketbook with higher taxes. Like she can't afford to pay a few more taxes or something.

6. So, several of Oprah's supporters are mad at Oprah.
Many are probably Clinton fans, some are probably conservatives. How exactly is that backfiring on Obama? Those votes were already in someone else's camp.

7. So it backfired because she got nasty comments on her website?
Saying she betrayed women by not backing Hillary?

WTF?

8. What makes people think that Hillary would identify with women?
She lives in a mans world and does not, in any way, represent women. If I were going to vote for Hillary it would be because we were like minded about the direction that this country needs to be moving in.

16. Guess that sounds a little stupid.
Do you remember when Bill was first in office and he and Hillary were on 60 Minutes? She made a huge deal about how she would not be baking cookies at the WH. In a derogatory way I will add. That was a huge slam to those in this country, male or female who take care of the family and home. She will represent the Corporations like everyone else in DC and that is a fact and for a woman to vote for her simply because she is female is just plain ..oh well. Have a good one. Kim

17. You may want to go back and check your view of history.
Your statement about "...baking cookies in the WH..." is completely off. It is not what she said.

Further (and if you are female) you should understand that the whole thing was blown into a story by the male controlled (then and now) corporate media.

You obviously bought into the male construct of the comments then and still do. Why is that?

19. You may want to go back and check your history.
And while you are at it you might want to open your eyes to Ms. Clinton's policies and see how tight she is with the media you so detest. Give me a break, King of Faux 'News'. Watch some of the video of her selling Iraq to Congress and the American people.

10. Right wing slob Bob Novak is not often quoted on DU

Even if the story had validity, using a right wing nut to make your case is a bit, well, right wing.

Besides, what Novak has written is an ANALYSIS, not a "report"--that is, his opinion, not fact.
