Bill Clinton wows UCD
Former president fires up a packed Pavilion at rally for his wife

Former President Clinton electrified a raucous audience of young voters Tuesday night at the UC Davis Pavilion, touting his wife, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton, as an experienced agent of change who would lead a "comeback for our country."

"The most important thing is this," he said to the standing-room-only crowd. "In order to be president and succeed, you have to be able to turn your good intentions into positive changes in other people's lives ... . I've never met someone better at making change than her."

Clinton, who spoke for nearly an hour, drew about 7,800 people, mostly students, and 3,500 more were turned away at the door, according to a UC Davis spokesman.

Before the event, the line was so long it wrapped around the pavilion and the nearby football field. The crowd chanted "Bill! Bill! Bill!" as the former president entered.

For much of the speech, Clinton served as a character witness for his wife of 32 years.

1. No one can doubt Bill's charm, charisma, and his ability to work a
crowd. The man is a born politician, has a huge intelligence, and is a natural "rain-maker". I just wish that used all these things for the people and the nation more consistantly...

3. Don't forget health care.
I just don't understand how anyone can take Hillary Clinton seriously when she talks about being a change agent with a record of fighting for change. The Clintons made one big push for universal health care in '93 and gave up for the next decade. All we heard from the Clintons and the Democratic Party, which they set the tone for, for the next ten years was half measures like a patients bill of rights or prescription drugs for seniors (as if young people never get sick and don't need health care). How do you expect change to happen when the top leaders of the party don't even have the courage to push for the real change we need?

And the pathetic part is that they couldn't even get the milder changes passed into law. What the hell kind of record is that? She gives up fighting for her top issue of universal healthcare and then couldn't even get something halfway like a good prescription coverage for seniors plan accomplished. And this is our change agent? How the hell is anybody taking this crap seriously?

4. He wows them
and I love it, but I'm beginning to think that Hillary is the stronger and more liberal of the two. I started out supporting her by a process of elimination, but I'm more and more impressed with her everyday.
