Emily's List launches protest against Chris Matthews; demands apology (link to form included)
Emily's List: Take that, Chris Matthews

Together we can make our message heard loud and clear: Chris Matthews needs to know that he cannot get away with being sexist. Please feel free to borrow language from my letter below.

Sample message:

Dear Phil Griffin,

I’ve had enough of Chris Matthews’s flagrant sexism -- especially his outrageous comments about Sen. Hillary Clinton. Matthews is employed by your network to cover our political process, and MSNBC has a responsibility to put commentators on the air who cover the news without inflicting their sexist anger on the American public.

Hillary Clinton deserves the same standard of media coverage as her opponents. When MSNBC allows gender biased attacks, its coverage is neither fair nor equal.

Chris Matthews should publicly apologize for his comments about Hillary Clinton and for his long history of belittling women, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi. We deserve better from a national cable television network -- Chris Matthews should be removed from covering this race.

NOTE: In discussing Matthews's coverage of the Nevada Democratic Debate on MSNBC Tuesday night, many noted that our voices of protest against "Tweety" are apparently being heard. His comments about Senator Clinton's debate performance were positive and, more importantly, outside the context of gender, and I personally heard none of his usual generalized sexist comments.

2. They sent similar complaints about Imus
What he said was reprehensible and I support his firing, but there was as much pressure from women's groups as there was from African Americans.

14. Na
His version of fair and balanced is to be a whore for the repubs today, and for someone else tomorrow. It was just Sen Clinton's turn.

Or he's got a secret evil twin who alternates broadcasts with him.

5. Imus and Tweety - sexists - both MSNBC - hopefully they both will be
formerly MSNBC. Unless MSNBC starts admitting that they allow it.

Imus even berated and insulted the females who worked for MSNBC.

Something is sick there.

8. Good point -- yes, indeed they did. They let him ask Erin Burnett to lean in closer to the camera...
for example, so he could leer at her, telling her how beautiful she was -- with impunity. I happened to see it live, and then it made it onto YouTube.

10. He's saying today he's on with Leno tonight -- NBC rehabbing his reputation?
Late-night shows have been used for that purpose lots of times.

15. " ......... our voices of protest against "Tweety" are apparently being heard."
You can bet your life that when we post stuff about media personalities they get read. Not just here, but all the 'blogs' where ordinary nobodies like us can post. Demographers have established rations where each of our comments are worth 1/n of a real person, or some such.

As MSNBC has, in fact, 'gone left', Matthews has to be a real concern for them. We'll never hear it until after the fact, but he's got to be feeling pressure.

If the Carlson boy is gone soon, then you can bet that signals increased pressure on Matthews' tail feathers.

17. Umm, from all of the fawning and free press he gave Hillary last night...
...after the debate, I'd argue they're being heard by the man himself.

18. I expect that's also true
If not the man himself, then for sure the assistant associate deputy producer read the blogs and told Himself about it.
