Bill Clinton: Only men can vote!
Edited on Wed Jan-16-08 05:21 PM by heraldsqure

-snip-

Mr. Clinton said the arrangement undercut the basic tenets of American democracy. "This is a one-man, one-vote country," he said. "Some people in Nevada are old fashioned. They think the rules should be the same for everbody and everybody's vote should count the same."

-snip-

And before I get grief for this, yes, he misspoke. But if anyone on any other campaign said it they'd get hit and hit hard.

PS Funny how in the story he claims to know that the plaintiffs didn't understand how delegates were allocated in the caucus, thus explaining why they were previously OK with the plan, while still maintaining he knew nothing about the suit and it has nothing to do with the Clinton campaign.

Edit: typo

1. Crack open a damn history book
He is referencing a famous court case which did establish the principle of one man one vote.

3. This lawyer thanks you...but it's usually referred to now as
'one-person, one-vote.' He's so mid-50's!

9. "usually"
"One man one vote" is clear in its meaning, except to the intentionally muddle headed.

13. You apparently don't know me.
I'm constantly being called a Republican or a fascist around here because I hold Republicans & Democrats to the same standards. I don't get distracted by idiocy like whether a generic statement uses "person" instead of "man."

==Mr. Clinton turned the tables on Mr. Matthews, whom the former president asserted had taken "an accusatory tone" by claiming a link to Mrs. Clinton's operation..."Don't be accusatory with me. I have enough to deal with."

The exchange came at an Oakland barbecue restaurant as Mr. Clinton took questions following a forum on the home mortgage crisis.

At one point during the exchange with the TV reporter, Mayor Ron Dellums tried to physically pull Mr. Clinton away, but the former president held his ground.==

10. The NV Dem Party plan was approved by the DNC...DNC files to become defendant.
Edited on Wed Jan-16-08 05:47 PM by madfloridian
Mr. Clinton is not speaking clearly.

http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/archives/2008/01/dnc_intervenes_in_nevada_atlar.php

"The Democratic National Committee has filed a motion to intervene in the lawsuit brought by teachers union against the Nevada Democratic Party's plan for at-large precincts.

Read the motion here.

This means that the DNC wants to preserve the principle that state parties can determine their delegate selection rules, and then, having chosen those rules, submit them to the DNC for the approval. A DNC official said the motion was filed because procedurally, it was the only way the party could file a brief in support of the party.

"Obviously, we support the Nevada state party and the previously recognized right of the national parties to set the rules for the nominating contests,"

The DNC fought Florida Democrats in court who charged that the DNC's decision to reject the Florida party's delegate selection date amount to an equal protection violation. The court sided with the DNC. A judge was set to rule on a temporary restraining order yesterday...

BTW: it seems as if the DNC and the Clinton family are on the opposite sides of this debate."
