A Note From "Give 'em Hell Harry"...
Edited on Wed Jan-16-08 05:56 PM by monmouth
Dear XXXXXX XXXXXX,

When a Democrat is elected President in 2008, I will make you one guarantee: Republicans are going to filibuster every piece of our agenda -- forcing us to find 60 votes to make health care available to all, stop global warming and end the war in Iraq.

How do I know the Republicans are going to deploy these tactics? Just look at their track record in this Congress. They've already set the all-time record of 62 filibusters -- and it's only the mid-way point in the session.

That is like a baseball player hitting 73 home runs before the all-star break. Even for Republicans, this isn't normal obstruction -- it's obstruction on steroids. Thankfully, we have great Democrats taking on Republicans across the country.

Today I want to introduce you to two of them.

In Maine, Congressman Tom Allen is running against Susan Collins. Collins claims she is a moderate, but that doesn't match her record of standing with George Bush and favoring never-ending war in Iraq by opposing a timetable for withdrawal.

Her record stands in stark contrast to Tom Allen's. In 2002, he voted against going to war in Iraq, and before that he opposed George Bush's tax cuts.

You can help eliminate one filibustering Republican by supporting Tom Allen's campaign for Senate today.

Right next door in New Hampshire is another great opportunity for Democrats to pick up a seat. In 2006 we helped turn New Hampshire blue, but John Sununu has not kept up with the times. While his state has changed, he remains a stalwart supporter of George Bush's failed policies in Iraq. Thankfully, former Governor Jeanne Shaheen has stepped into the race. As governor, Shaheen expanded access to health care, implemented smart energy policies and protected the state's environment.

But Tom Allen and Jeanne Shaheen need your help. Republicans, fearful of losing more seats, are flooding New Hampshire and Maine with special interest money. And there is no doubt, with their backs up against the wall, how dirty this campaign will get. It's vital we give our candidates all the resources they need to fight back right now.

Stop Republican filibusters -- support Tom Allen and Jeanne Shaheen by visiting:
