This Reagan adulation from Obama will hurt his standing among core democrats
Regardless what the kool-aid obama drinkers here say, it was a dumb thing to say and will hurt him in the closed primary states where indies and republicans are not allowed to vote.

The defense I hear from Obama supporters makes me laugh. You know these folks drank the kool-aid and are entranced by his cult of personality. If Hillary or Pelosi or Reid or Lieberman or any other democrat said a similar remark, there would have been a Salem witch trial on this board about now.

8. That Reagan changed the country
Because people were ready to get out of the doldrums and excesses of the 70's. And it's true, even if you don't like the direction of the change.

31. What "excesses" was he talking about in the 1970's?
The 70's were, overall, a progressive decade. What is Obama's problem with the 70's?

4. "Reagan changed the trajectory of the country"
He did, and eveybody knows it. For better or worse, Reagan moved this country towards conservative values and Bill Clinton did not move the country towards liberal values.

Reality.

They've got no more ideas anymore. It's all tax cuts. He also said that. The country is ready to listen to Democratic values again, for god's sake let's give them somebody they're willing to listen to.

11. Every Democrat hears that and hears praise for the "changed trajectory" that Clinton had to clean up
which we all remember nearly wrecked the country.

34. Obama's proudest moment was throwing the LGBTQ community under the bus...
pandering to gay~hating bigots is something he did so nobly...that and belonging to a church who's leader, Jeremiah Wright, praises Louis Farrakhan as "an honorable" man. I wonder what Obama's thoughts are on Israel's right to exist? Jeremiah Wright and Louis Farrakhan flew to Tripoli and met with Quadaffi. Obama calls Jeremiah Wright his mentor...this is something that needs to be examined.

The base didn't count when Hillary said she'd send Colin Powell out to clean up our reputation ~ and it doesn't count now that Obama is sucking up in his way.

Obama and HRC continue to do things that make me ask over and over, "Where the hell did my party go???"

That was just another one. Witch hunting, I don't do. I don't forgive or forget, either, though.

10. As an Obama supporter, I acknowledge that a good spin master could run with this
in a way that might neutralize and/or repair any hard feelings between blacks and the Clintons, while reviving the old meme of Obama not being "black enough." People tend to run with soundbites these days. Any soundbite that even remotely gives props to Reagan is a horrible thing, IMO.

13. Or Hillary could run with this
and alienate another block of voters by attacking St Ronnie. Obama did not praise Reagan, he defined the mood of the country in 1980 and he is correct. Why don't you listen to Obama's supporters and not the spin.

16. True, but it's like announcing "I don't have a bomb" at the airport
You said the right thing, but you still may end up surrounded by armed guards, booted from your flight and/or strip searched. This is also similar to the Will Smith/Hitler controversy.

17. She's stuck in the past
wants to continue the fights of the past, is not the person to move the country forward.

She's a "hands on" technocrat who has no patience, she said so, who wants to push her agenda on the country.

It's kind of like bombs, except they're land mines.

24. Reagan took a country that was evolving democratically and turned it into
a regressive fascist state in a matter of a few years.

He set the political evolution of this country back so far we may never recover our democracy.

40. If the Clintons and their supporters are trying to make many of us gag
at the thought of voting for her, they are doing an outstanding job. The Obama quote is not saying Reagan is good, but that he brought in change. Do you thing America 1992 was similar to America 1980? Or was there a pretty massive shift to the right?
