What are the rules for the Nevada caucuses?
When do they start?

How long to they last?

Are they like Iowa and open to non-democrats to register and caucus?

3. Thanks Yael.
This for everyone.

1. With the "At Large" precincts, what rules are in place to prevent someone from going to the At Large ones and then going to the prescient they vote in and caucus there?

2. What about workers in places like hospitals, bank processing centers and other places that don't have a at large location set up to help them? Is that fair?

4. Also, the republicans caucus at 9, then they can go over and register as democrats????
This is sheer buffoonery.

What ever is the DNC thinking of in approving this fiasco?

6. The whole process seems pretty screwed up.
I mean don't get me wrong, I've said before it sounds fun for political hags like m'self. But I like primary process much better. You can request an absentee ballot, you can vote in the morning before work ... and so one.

This is really kinda nutsy coo-coo crazy if you ask me.

It just seems to screw over a lot of people. You work hours and/or take care of kids and can't make it to the caucus ... you're shit out of luck.

Really fucked if you ask me.

5. If they're like other states, the caucuses all start at the same time
so in regards to 1):

You probably wouldn't have time to go from your precinct to one of the at-large precincts. Typically, they have a "time certain" where you have to be in the door in order to join a subcaucus.

7. *If *all the votes are equal ..... But will they be?
I'm all for 1 person = 1 vote or a percentage of a delegate as long as every vote is equal. The law suite seems to suggest that not everyone's vote will be worth the same amount of delegates.

If a voter is caucusing at a normal caucus the math is
1 delegate for every 50 voters in the district

According to the Plaintiffs,
The amount of delegates are to be counted differently depending on where the voter is caucusing.
At-large precincts are treated as counties in and of their own, meaning that depending on attendance, one delegate could be assigned for every five participants.

Political rationals are beyond the scope of my post, I'm just looking at the math.

As I said, I'm all for people voting as long as all votes are equal. It'd be a real pain if this became the way things were done & then it got twisted & used against will of the people. Yeah tinfoil hat time but Bush & Co has used too many of the wacky laws to NOT think of the ways a law could be perverted.

8. The whole system is crap.
Delegates, electoral votes ...

It's all shit.

I'm all for a national primary and to hell with the electoral votes.

You vote for your the candidate of your party and that person wins and it's on the general election.

9. I like the idea of a national primary but the poorer canadates wouldn't be able to run
That's the great thing about NH & Iowa, both of us are small enough so that the candidates can spend time instead of Money.
Personally I really enjoyed Biden & Dodd comments.
