1. Stop confusing them with logic. It's much easier to support a DLC Divider.
Say it with me... We want a divider, not a uniter. We want a divider, not a uniter.

8. Clinton tried to win over republican votes and look where it got him...
Do you really think that Obama will be able to work with republicans in congress if he is elected...

Do you really think they won't start in on him right from the start...

Don't you know that he knows what they will do.

Read his book, not just a choice excerpts.

24. Thank God there are only two Democrats running in the primaries.
It follows that if you aren't supporting Obama, you must be supporting Clinton.

2. I don't really want to vote for someone
who will be campaigning to attract Republican voters. I wouldn't know that I could trust him/her to not wimp out on major progressive issues.

3. Then you'll never vote for a winner with a mandate
I'd rather be the big tent that brings people along to our point of view, then to keep losing elections because we cut people off from the party.

5. My vote will go to whoever represents ME.
I am not going to try to figure out who will represent SOMEONE ELSE.

So I may never voter for the winner, at least I expressed my opinion the way I thought I should.

If I never vote more progressive than the centrist candidate, they will never have any reason to move in that direction.

Sometimes the herd is just too safe.

38. My advice would be to look closely on the records
of the different candidates, they will tell the most true story on how a candidate is likely to act(rhetoric while useful is less accurate as it will change to attract different groups), what the candidates did before they entered office might also show some insight in the candidates

Also keep in mind that Obama is aiming for the independents and the moderate/disillusioned republicans, the less republicans around the weaker the power base of the republicans which again will force atleast a few republicans to start voting in a more progressive way if they wish to keep their seats or risk loosing it

14. perhaps you should educate yourself about the candidate
and his record, and senate rating (about 10th or so most liberal), instead of listening to second-hand campaign talking points and misunderstanding a campaign strategy. Just an idea.

because Saint Ronnie promised them a nice neighborhood with no darkies, fags, crazy people, adequately funded public schools, safe drinking water, clean skies, etc.

yeah, that's worked out like a charm.

27. We're talking about the electorate, right?
What "legislation" do you believe "Obama Republicans" will support? Where's the leverage?

As a gay American, I'm confident that "Obama Republicans" won't be supporting the issues (or any legislation) I care about. So, I'd like to be persuaded that this is a genius move on the part of the potential Democratic nominee.

28. No, we're mostly talking about legislators

Really? You don't think Huckabites would trade off full legal "marriage-ish" protections for same-sex couples in return for keeping the word "marriage" meaning what it means to them?

Actually Huckabee is exactly who we need to be looking at: his supporters are mostly the "Obama Republicans" we're talking about. They never really bought into the "government is the problem" mantra, and they can definitely be co-opted on a lot of issues, particularly regarding economics.

29. But didn't the DLC and the Clintons originate this strategy in the 90s?
Regardless of its origins (or rationale), I'm not as optimistic as you that Republicans of the Obama, Clinton or DLC variety will support the principles of the Democratic Party - as I understand them. I see this election as an opportunity to repudiate the corruption and radical governance forced upon this country. I would prefer the Democratic candidates to aggressive dismantle the Republican ideology of the last 7 (hell, 20) years -- I'd see that as real leadership; one that Democrats could be proud of.

30. No, Reagan originated it in the 1960's
It was specifically not triangulation (which, in case you've forgotten, Clinton didn't invent: Nixon did. That's why Nixon created the EPA. And NEA.)

I would prefer the Democratic candidates to aggressive dismantle the Republican ideology of the last 7 (hell, 20) years

Reagan essentially undid LBJ's Great Society in his first 100 days.

And he didn't do it by going it alone. He got cross-aisle approval.

If you and an alignment-changing administration (and I do), you have to do that.
