Are we heading for two brokered conventions?
The odds against that seem to be staggering, but I'm not seeing a clear advantage for one candidate on either side at this point. Could it end up so close that both sides go right down to the convention? This is, after all, the first time in 80 years that there's been absolutely no incumbants in the race...

1. Too soon to tell. I have to think both parties are trying to avoid that at all costs
The GOP in particular has a lot of solidarity to lose if they don't gather behind a single candidate soon--their electoral success depends far more on claiming a single candidate represents the whole party this cycle than the Democrats'.

2. It would be a great thing for the country.
I think it would generate interest in the political process on both sides of the aisle. Under normal circumstances, I could care less what the Republicans do, but in this case, if it encourages a great awakening throughout the entire political spectrum and the corporatists on both sides lose as a result, than the country as a whole will be much healthier for it.

The media coverage will be unbelievably biased. They've propped up McCain for ages
With Obama vs McCain, it will be interesting to see whose media likability wins the day.

6. It remains to be seen. If she maintains an advantage in fundraising, it could be more even
But they LOVE McCain. How he escapes time and again from supporting a failed foreign policy is an utter mystery to me.

4. I's LOVE a contested convention
I lived through one ..... many decades ago. Just one more would be great. And a civics lesson to all.

7. I'd love for the Rs to have a contested convention --
it would be fantastic for them to be fighting each other up until the end. Us, not so much.

The earlier a nominee gets chosen, the more time we have to heal party rifts before the general. Plus, god knows who we'd end up with. People have this fantasy that's we'd get Gore when we might end up with Evan Bayh or somebody like that.
