Obama camp full of shit, Party says not so fast on delegate claim
http://lasvegassun.com/blogs/ralstons-flash/2008/jan/19/obama-claims-delegate-win-party-officials-say-no/

Sun political columnist Jon Ralston is reporting that the Barack Obama campaign is claiming the delegate win in Nevada, but Democratic Party officials disagree.

Obama’s camp is saying because of his wins outside of Clark County, that he would receive 13 delegates to Hillary Clinton’s 12 delegates.

However, Ralston reports that party officials are saying no delegates will be apportioned until later, probably when the nomination is decided.

Ralston writes: “Party boss Jill Derby told journalist Steve Friess:

‘I don’t know why they’re saying that,’ a confused Derby said. ‘We don’t select our national delegates the way they’re saying. We won’t select national delegates for a few more months.’”

1. Barack delegates would have to switch over for Hillary to win
Edited on Sat Jan-19-08 09:26 PM by dkf
the delegate count.

But in the initial allocation there are more Obama delegates than Clinton delegates.

What is true is that the Obama people got to pick more delegates than the Clinton people.

2. Your vulgar characterization of the Obama camp says more about you than...
...Obama's possible error regarding delegate counts.

3. "We won't select national delegates for a few more months"?????
Obama lies. His supporters lie. They lie.

We have had a convenient, conscienceless liar as president for 8 years. In what way does Obama offer "CHANGE"?????

10. an interesting comment at the Op link. Also if you look at Politico's terrific map you can see Obama
interactive map Obama did well in many more areas than Hillary did. She did well in fewer areas and did poorly in many more areas.
It is likely Obama is correct, this is a delegate collecting race.

"obama actually got more delegates in nevada because he did better overall in the state of nevada than in highly concentrated areas around las vegas.
remember the gap is less than 5-percent after substancial distortion of obama's record, and subliminal negative ads.
yet, the national party recognizes that doing good overall is better than doing great in a few places and very bad in a lot of other places.
that is the case of hillary, she only has pocketed support built over her husband's popularity; her narrow win is not reflective of cross-over support; that is the reason that with her narrow win, she still gets less delegates than obama in nevada.
the smart people that designed this caucus arithmetic recognized that pocketed supports do not win national elections, but cross-over appeal does.
so, it makes sense to consider overall performance within a particular state. the logic here is similar to college graduation standards: one does not get to graduate because one gets a few A's in a few courses while flunking everything else.
all the statistics suggest big trouble for hillary in any national race because she has no cross-over appeal.
now imagine hillary with the same level of experience without a popular former president as a husband. where would she stand in the polls?"

13. So, Hillary's cronies in the Dem Party have been instructed to squash this story...
Well, when the head of your Nevada campaign is Harry Reid's son, I guess you've got the clout to attempt this.

I'll stick with the truth though.

19. it doesn't matter!
what is one delegate, and what difference does it make if it goes to Obama vs. Clinton? Both candidates did well in NV. Time to move on.

There are many more states to contest and votes to win.

23. NBC: SOME CLARITY ON THOSE NV DELEGATES
The Clinton campaign then issued something similar, saying: "The Obama campaign is wrong. Delegates for the national convention will not be determined until April 19."

But hold on, folks. The Nevada Democratic Party just issued this clarification (emphasis is ours): "No national convention delegates were awarded. That said, if the delegate preferences remain unchanged between now and April 2008, the calculations of national convention delegates being circulated by the Associated Press are correct. We look forward to our county and state conventions where we will choose the delegates for the nominee that Nevadans support."

What does this mean? It looks like the Obama camp's math (as well as the AP's and NBC's) is correct.
