Sorry to Bother You, But I Just Turned In and Still Can't Tell What Really Happened.
Hillary really won!

Obama really won!

Could a single, honest poster from ANY side please give a fair appraisal of what really happened?

1. Clinton won
Edited on Sat Jan-19-08 10:28 PM by Tropics_Dude83
Senator Clinton won. She won 51-45% in the popular vote totals and she had a fairly convincing lead in the exit polls as well. More people intended to caucus for Clinton than did Obama. Obama may have a 1 delegate 13-12 delegate lead but delegates aren't decided until April officially so that is somewhat unclear.

But, looking at the people's will only, Clinton had a convincing lead. She did this, however, because of winning Clark County Las Vegas by 13 points. Obama did win the rest of the state.

8. Isn't Clark County 1.7 million - in a state with 2.6 million?.-

9. No you are wrong. The popular vote has not been posted yet.
She won 51% of the precinct delegates and Obama won 45%. However, her 51% of the precinct delegates gets her 12 pledged delegates and Obama's 45% gets him 13 pledged delegates to the national convention.

This is because like the electoral college, it is not only how many precinct delegates you have, but where they are located.

14. This is the best account you will get
Although Clinton's own people have said "This is a race for delegates, not individual states". When you say things like that and set the stakes, you need to be prepared to accept the consequences.

12. This is the correct response...
Despite the spin that Hillary's campaign is trying to put out, the only way for Obama to not win the delegates in NV is for delegates to have a "change of heart", which is unlikely.

5. No popular vote posted yet.
Hillary won precinct delegates but extrapolating those delegates into the National delegates, Obama has more pledged delegates for the National Convention.

This does not count the super delegates.

So now it's the War of the Spin here, I guess.

Do the people here run on batteries? What keeps them going? Wow.

10. The reality vs the spin
Hillary won by 6 points. Paragraph 3 or 4 of your newspaper tomorrow may mention the delegate story.

As usual, the spin from some at DU is a bit detached from reality.

11. Hillary won precinct delegates by 6% but lost in pledged national delegates by 4%.
That is the truth.

As I keep saying, no one knows what the popular vote was yet.

15. Keep tellinig yourself that's the story
if it makes you feel better.

But the story is that Hillary won Nevada.

Obama won Iowa, Clinton won New Hampshire and Nevada.

If Obama wins SC, that will be the story there too.

7. It has to do with the anti-Democratic way the Democratic party divides delegates
In Iowa Obama won by 9%, yet only gained 1 vote ahead of Hillary. Why, because of the crazy Democratic rules, super delegates and other nonesense

23. Thanks for reminding me. That was it - the other F*up. Anti-Democratic indeed.
Edited on Sun Jan-20-08 12:04 AM by robbedvoter
I don't care in which direction it swings, it's WRONG. Looks like the 2 f*ups happen to cancel each other - but the idiotic system still needs to be revised.
Elections in the modern world are universal, SECRET, DIRECT and EQUAL. These caucases have been none.

Also, Hillary conceded in Iowa and made no bones of the delegated #. Nobody did.

13. Delegates go to Denver
The election today was over delegates. In most caucus states, rural delegates are given more weight to make sure small towns come out and vote and have a voice. Obama won rural Nevada. Obama gets more delegates. The actual humans will be elected in a month or so, 13 for Obama, 12 for Hillary.

That is what happened. Plain English.

"Rep. Clyburn: Nevada was a 'split decision'
Neither candidate will get a bump"

This was his response as a result of Clinton winning the popular vote by about 500 and Obama winning the delegate vote by 1. It's all about the mo going into SC, as I am sure you know, and in that regard, it's a dead heat.

22. I think toebot is trying to communicate the desperation
many of us feel about these "McCandidates" winning primary after primary. Grassroots, homespun guys like Lee Mercer, Jr. can't get media traction given the corporate influence wielded by the big three. Fair point, no??

going into the SC primary.
