If John Edwards is "finished" why are there so many hate filled vitriolic
postings trying to take him down? Why are so many of you taking the time to attack a candidate you say is not viable? Surely you have better things to do, such as supporting whomever your chosen candidate is? Or is it that some still consider John a "threat" to whatever agenda they are advancing?

he's still in the race. Why do so many people attack Clinton or Obama? Because this is DU!

2. Yes,John is a threat. That is why voters had to be suppressed in the caucuses today
All the polls are rigged, by some estimates his real support is around 83%. The fear they have of John is so obvious, the less we hear and see about him is
directly correlated to the danger they feel.

hey, saracat, someone was discussing how the rhetoric was getting crazy for the racism issue for Obama and Clinton, and I thought, you know what? That's what this country has been belittled to - celebrity gossip - they will talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk andtalk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk SOME more about Clinton and Obama supporters and their surrogates getting in each other's faces over the race issue because it gets them in the news and most Americans don't care about the issues - they want CELEB NEWS - NOT AMERICAN GOV'T NEWS.

I actually shy away from celebrity. I am a singer, and have been yelled at for not choosing to stay singing (where I was making good pay) by several music people, because I have moral responsibilities that I believe trump the pursuit of anything else, and, I lived with a fashion model in S. Beach and it made me hate the world of fashion and the smarmy fakeness of celeb and rich folk I met in South Beach - I left there kicking my sandals together and getting that sand off my body! So, when someone with character and good moral judgment and resolve comes along - I listen to them!

John Edwards is an awesome person regardless of what the media is portraying in their attacks on him as an ambulance chaser, a communist, a pretty boy, etc... He cares about this country - he's like me - we're really hurting and it's going to get worse without him as president, even if we get Obama or Clinton, as I don't think Obama is ready to lead, and I don't believe Clinton should be permitted because her husband was just there a few years back, and frankly, the thoughts of him back in the White House are going to drive people to the polls to vote against her, people really don't want Bush then Clinton, then Bush then Clinton again!

12. Great post! I agree. And Hillary going on Tyra and Obama taking Oprah "On Tour'
prove your point.I have been involved with "celebrity" most of my life in theater and media.I have no real problem with it except when it is used for nefarious purposes.

John is possibly one of the most genuine and honest politicos I have ever met. I think the media crowd just can't handle him. They are always looking for the angle , because everyone in showbiz or politics has one and they can't relate to "poverty" as an angle.

John makes their heads explode. He is gorgeous, rich, successful and has a wonderful wife and family. He has nothing to gain and actually wants to help people.God Almighty, whats wrong with the guy? This isn't acceptable! What if other people began thinking that way.So they rush to those whose motives they can understand and manipulate like Obama and Hillary. It is very sad.

14. right ON!
I wish we could have coffee (hot chocolate in my case) and talk. Ha. I love your points. Yes, it is sad, and you know how I feel, when fame/wealth are used nefariously, then there's a sharp rebuke by me about it. John is all those things you described him as, and they are terrified (as business leaders) and confused (as lovers of worldliness) about why this guy is all this - but cares about those 'degenerate losers' on the streets.

good night!

5. It has come down to a territorial pissing match
between the Hillary and Obama crowds. The rest of us are just inconsequential trivialities in their way at this point. Or at least, that is how it seems they see us. Sad, isn't it?

I'm personally leaning more toward Kucinich but also basically like Edwards, so I could still go with either of them in the primaries. The "top two" choices they are shoving down our throats leave a lot to be desired.

Too bad Kucinich and Edwards aren't in their places instead. Then we could have an election I feel excited to vote in and participate in.

As it stands now, I'm disillusioned with politics because of the fact that we have Corporate Choice #1 and Corporate Choice #2. The rest of us who do not support those two, have been told to pretty much go to hell and take our whole goddamn families with us.

This might be the first time since I turned 18 that I don't vote at all. Might not even vote in the primaries if it means going through bullies like the Hillary/Obama bunch just to vote. Damn shame too. Things could have been different if only they allowed more than just 2 candidates to get the message across.

Lesser of two evils? Choosing between Hillary and Obama is like choosing between Satan and Beelzebub to me. Same shit, same difference, different years. It's truly a sad day in politics.

Edited on Sun Jan-20-08 04:45 AM by Chovexani
I'm staying home, and I will stay home until Election Day 2008. I will hold my nose and vote for the D, but that is all.

The Clinton/Obama pissing matches have killed any hope I had for this election. And yes, I think they're far worse than the '04 primary season, because at least then we didn't have the specters of racism, sexism and homophobia thrown into the mix.

The koolaid drinkers on both sides have proven they don't give a shit about you unless you vote for their "team", like this is a goddamn football game. Every kind of vile sexist, racist and homophobic notion has been thrown around in the name of propping up this or that candidate and it has made me so sick to my stomach that words are failing me. Just fucking failing me. This campaign has blown the door off the closet, the skeletons of prejudice are falling out and turning into goddamn Resident Evil zombies. It's Night of the Living Dead in here.

I am utterly, completely, unequivocally disgusted by this entire process. And it's only January.

7. If that is the way you see this contest, then you are not seeing clearly...
it is quite obvious to most of us that Edwards is not 'finished.' He has a long way to go, but things could easily move in his direction. His loss in Nevada was caused by the caucus system which deprived those who candidates failed to achieve the 15% minimum. A regular election system would have shown John's very real support.

As to your charges against Hillary supporters, and I am one, there are few vitrolic messages from the Hillary group.

Failing to get your way and considering not voting in the GE, well, do you not see the importance of a Dem president vis-a-vis nominees to the Supreme Court? Would you prefer a McCain or Shuckabee to choose those nominees? Not voting in the GE is not the answer.

9. I think once John sticks around after Feb 5, they'll realize he's not going to leave
he's got delegates, and that matters.

A slate blogger didn't even know about the 15% rule in Nevada when he was trashing Edwards for his "humiliating" finish there, then corrected himself when a reader told him, but he left his rambling rip on Edwards up, of course.

John said it a few days ago, all he has to do is get delegates, not win states. I think I know what that means - it's a long battle.

Edited on Sun Jan-20-08 06:30 AM by Jamastiene
Right wing = Right wing

This match should be between Edwards and Kucinich if we are to really have any form of representation on the left and I sure as hell won't vote third party. That would do more harm than good.

Fact, you can take it to the bank:
By the time the primaries are held in my state, NC, second week in May, Edwards, Kucinich and anyone else besides Hillary and Obama will have dropped out of the race and endorsed one of them. It never fails. You can count on it.

I won't even have the chance to vote for who I really want to vote for because the primaries are held so damn late for many of us It's always Iowa and New Hampshire that decide for the rest of us. It's already been "settled" before we ever walk into the booth. No chance.

But, I will say the Hillary supporters seem much less violent and hateful than the Obama supporters.

lashing out at the voters and the remaining Democratic candidates?

I've seen the Democratic voters who caucused today called lazy, undeserving, sheeple, heard that they must have blinders on, etc., etc., etc. These are your fellow Democrats!

Some Edwards supporters have most admirably viewed the situation objectively and acted with grace. Hopefully more will follow their lead.

Whether or not you chose to set aside your bitterness and vitriol is entirely your decision, but the fact is all three candidates are nearly identical on the issues, and the votes. This is an overlay of the candidates compiled from ontheissues.com

Lucky for you, and all of us, you will still be the beneficiary of the progress that will come under a presidency held by Obama or Clinton. I understand disappointment, but you do yourself no good at all when you make flat-out false statements to justify your feelings.

Something tells me that bunch will riot all across the country if he doesn't win.

There are so many of them who refuse to even admit that invoking Reagan's name was over the line for a Democrat, considering all that Reagan's administration did to destroy us.

I holler uncle already. If there is a candidate left in the race worth voting for in May, I'll vote for them. So, if either Edwards or Kucinich will just stick it out that long, I can vote in the primaries. Otherwise, my conscience will not let me vote for the other "top two." No way.

Why do you think Obama supporters will riot? That's a very curious and supicious statement.

42. I still create hate filled vitriolic posts about Edwards
because Edwards continues to tick me off. Edwards launched lots of sleazy dishonest smears against Hillary. I posted nasty things about him until Edwards slowed down. Then I left him alone for awhile..

Recently, our party had trouble with race issues. Edwards piled on as usual. Edwards was willing to make trouble that was hurting the whole party worse just to try to score a few points for himself. The man has no concern about anything but himself.

Edwards should either run a positive campaign or quit. All he is doing now is hurting our eventual nominee. He goes after Obama now too.
