Do you remember that glorious moment in 2004, when the entire Democratic Convention was cheering and chanting "Hope Is On The Way!"?
I thought that was the most terrific meme to spread - a message of real hope for America and the world after the grim failures of the first four years of Dubya.
Do you remember who the convention was cheering for?
They were chanting "Hope Is On The Way!" for the introduction of the new Vice Presidential candidate: John Edwards.
Do you remember the next day?
I was looking for more hope. What did I get?
"Help Is On The Way!".
I cringed. All I could think of was Reagan saying "We're from the government and we're here to help you."
The message of hope had become a message of "help" as in "big government", "tax and spend". I felt like the message of hope had been lost in the massaging and filtering by focus groups, consultants, and pollsters.
Please - I want to go back to that shining, brilliant night when the whole Democratic Convention was cheering a message of hope, and the man on stage was:
John Edwards.
