Obama just stupidly raised his expectations in SC

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/01/20/politics/main3732961.shtml

Obama said Sunday that South Carolina's primary will be "absolutely critical" to his campaign.

The Story is half way down the page.

Why oh why, do you want to do that. He's just raised the expectation bar very very high. I mean I'm no Obama supporter but you don't say that when you have lost the last 2 primaries. Its like saying I'm in intensive care and this is my last shot to come out of the coma.

Has he just said, If Hillary comes even anywhere close next Saturday, I'm finished.

1. Well, it will be
He's lost the last two primaries. If he can't turn out his base in SC in significant numbers, it will hurt him.

4. He just can't help saying things that are true. Maybe after a few more
decades in Washington it can kill his impulse towards honesty.

11. His knee-jerk honesty does seem to be seen as a negative by some people.
We've seen a lot of distortions and lies up close lately and that seems to be more of their cup of tea.

35. Obama as president, how about this--
We're in Iraq until we get all their oil. We find that preferable to just paying them for it. The way our clueless citizens buy huge gas guzzlers, we must continue to supply them with what amounts to more than our share of the world's resources.

Well sure, our men are tired, they don't know what they're doing there, moral is at an all time low, some are on their 3rd or 4th tours. If they do come home, it's most likely in a coffin. I'll have my surrogates continue to give the widow and children a flag to cheer them up. If they go to a vet hospital, they will have to compete for limited resources.

To keep up the pace, we are thinking of starting up the draft again. That should give our National Guard and volunteer force a much needed rest, unless we go into Iran. We already keep track of high schoolers, so it won't really be that hard to initiate.

I always ask myself, "what would Reagan do?"

Don't get me started.

6. Hillary is not taking this thing lightly, she never has, never will.
Like it or not, the Clinton's take politics very seriously. That is what you need if you want to win in the political game field. Obama's arrogance from a single win in a small state shows that he is not ready to play with the "big boys". Anyone who thinks that a single primary win is going to determine their victory is ignorant of history. Just ask the pundits who claimed that Hillary was "finished" after a single loss. If you lose the first game in the season, you are FAR from "done with".

30. You're right about one thing and one thing only: The Clintons
take politics very seriously. But you forgot to add what they've proved: there is nothing they won't do to win. No political trick to ugly or small or vile, that they won't go for

And in case you missed it, he's doing pretty well. Yeah, Iowa is a small state, but in case you didn't know, it's bigger than NH. And how the fuck do you know what he's thinking? You don't. He's not the arrogant one. The Clintons define arrogance and entitlement. I may end up having to vote for that person, but it'll be a sad day for me and this country. And I literally don't know one single person who supports her in my community.

Hillary finds a way to remind black women that being female is also important - all in the next 7 days.

12. Obama has not lost ANY primaries.
Edited on Sun Jan-20-08 03:45 PM by IanDB1
There is no winner or loser in a primary or a caucus.

They only decide who gets how many delegates awarded to them. And in the case of Michigan, it wasn't even a "binding" primary.

Nobody has ever won or lost a Primary.

Not that I WANT Obama to win the nomination.

He's not my favorite.

My preference, in order, is Kucinich, Edwards, Obama, Clinton, Gravel, Paul, Biden, Sharkey.

With Obama having a SLIGHT edge over Clinton.

I don't dislike Obama, but this just proves to me again not only is he too inexperienced to be President, but also is he too inexperienced to be our nominee. You can't blithely go around saying things like that if you hope to survive all the way up until November, and then win.

He can say it blithely or tersely or conversationally or musingly pr philosophically or humorously and still survive and then win.

Just like so many have been saying here for so long, which is why he shouldn't be the nominee. Look at how he whines and whines about the Clinton's. No way is he going to be able to stand up to a republican in the general. He and his people are the biggest whiners I have ever seen in politics, even on a local level. I can't believe he got this far. Well, then again, yes I can -- he's a pure media creation.
