Female Republicans Will Not Vote For Hillary
Edited on Mon Jan-21-08 12:14 AM by gdaerin
I just wanted to make sure people are clear about this, because there seems to be some confusion.

I've seen some posts on DU lately, where people claim that Hillary will inspire Republican women to vote Hillary in a GE, and I have to tell you, that is a fairy tale.

I personally know a Lot of republican women, and men, for that matter, and they all Hate the Clintons.

If anything, these people will be inspired to get out and vote against them.

People need to start thinking about electability, because that is the only way we can lose this election, by nominating someone who is unelectable!

Only the dimwitted crazies would run as Republican this year. Bush has 80% disapproval and over 75% think the country is going in the wrong direction. AND GAS IS HIGH.

It's throw the bastards out time. The Republicans only have to lie low and watch us struggle for two years.

53. Put down the kool-aid
Hillary will energize the Rs in droves to show up at the polls and vote against her, and a sizeable number of Ds will either vote against her or not vote. After pissing off Blacks she can no longer count on them either. Just where is she going to get enough votes to win? She will NOT draw any more votes in the GE than she is now in the primaries. Add the HRC hating Rs and Is to the HRC hating Ds and she can't win, and no amount of wishful thinking can change that. She is divisive, has high negatives, and is well known - so people are unlikely to change their opinion of her. All she can do at this point is piss even more people off - which she seems to be doing by the day.

They don't seem to hate Hillary near as much as the men. And I'm guessing you are not talking to moderate Republicans, particularly the older and younger ones. You might be talking to some real type A Republicans who pride themselves on hating the Clintons. As someone who doesn't like Clinton yourself, I don't think your report of the situation is likely to reflect reality. The Republican women will just be agreeing with you.

If you stood up for Hillary with these women, you would see something different, I'll bet. I don't get any drooling or name calling when I do it.

Republican women have never had a chance to see the real Hillary. They have only seen the fake Hillary that the media portrayed so effectively. Hillary is stunningly popular in New York. People that know her end up liking her.

I don't even enjoy visiting Texas - I've had my coworkers actually start preaching how "we're all conservative down here" as soon as us "Yankees" got off the plane. It was one of the most insulting and ignorant introductions I've ever received in my life. I know all of Texas is not like that, but the more vociferous people I meet when visiting on business seem to have a penchant for being ignorant morons that seem to get a kick out of being small-penis twerps. Good luck - take back your state from the ignoramuses!

Edited on Mon Jan-21-08 12:43 AM by PinkTiger
My sister, who is big-time GOP in Texas, is campaigning for Hillary. So you aren't necessarily right. She said she and her girlfriends are voting for Hillary because the men on the GOP ticket are all "tools." (her words).

She is one of those people who loves to vote for the "man," not the "party." LOL.
Her "man" this time is a woman.

Not everyone in the US is all that party-prone. Many of them vote across the lines. So, while I agree that hard core GOP women will NOT vote for a Clinton (or an Obama), I think many people who voted for GB last time will vote Democratic this time.

45. Some will and some wont. Hillary does not need all, just some.
I know some Republican women who are going to vote for Hillary. Just as all Democratic women do not vote in lock step, all Republican women will not vote against Hillary. The more information I learn about Hillary the more I like her. I used to like her just because she was Bill Clinton's wife. That was good enough for me. Now I like her because she is turning out to be not just a great politician but also an excellent role model.

There is a sisterhood among women. When those Republican women go into the voting booth they are going to cast a vote for Hillary because it will make it easier for their Republican daughter to one day be POTUS or any other profession she chooses. When it is said and done, they know Hillary will do no worse than any man. There are alot of women who admire Hillary for trying to break through that ceiling. They may not tell the pollster or their husband or even their best friend but they will vote for Hillary.

Save this post, Hillary will get no less than 80 percent of the women vote in the general election. This include blacks, hispanic, asian, whites, and all other women.

58. I agree. I would extend that to all genders within the GOP.
They are just not going to cross the aisle for a Clinton. AND yes, the GOP Clinton hate is strong enough to bring them to support any of the pathetic pygmies currently in the GOP Primary race.

The real question before us is what will Independents and disenfranchised progressive Democrats do in the GE?
I’m an Edwards/Kucinitch-type supporter based on their policies, not their personality or supposed entitlement based on their experience or lack there of. It troubles me that the Clintons can’t let go of the WH. In a time when the populace wants change, I am dismayed that we would ever collectively choose another “do-over” dynasty. The Clintons actually scare me enough to vote for a third party candidate if one should emerge OR not vote at all if the Clintons end up being the Democratic candidate(s).

Bill Clinton was more Reagan than Reagan could ever hope to be in his policies. Hilary is no change there. Be very afraid. Do you really think that Monica or Hilary was the last person to suck his dick? And yet, I believe their desperation is probably their greatest asset. If only Kerry delivered on his promise to fight voter irregularities with the vigilance of the latest Clinton campaign. He walked away then and now “pretends” to endorse Obama. They are both mistakes. I’m sorry, but Amerika is not ready to elect a black man or woman as POTUS. It’s not going to happen. Period.

I wish that I had more hope, but I think that the populace has been dumb downed enough not to know better.

Still, the Clinton machine seems most poised to fight against any threats to their candidacy. Oh great. The best GOP candidates are the top two front runners in the Democratic primaries.

We are fucked.

I told you so. Mark this.

66. the major point is
Republicans may hate Hillary, and won't vote for Hillary. But there's a very good question if they would vote for McCain either.

The only way they come out in droves to vote for McCain is if Hillary is the nominee.

73. That's the truth.
People don't become Republicans because they want change, and a woman becoming president doesn't inspire most Republican women; on the contrary, it positively frightens the Phyllis Schlafly types.

That legion of mystery voters who took her from third to first place in NH just a day after she tanked in Iowa despite the consensus of polling data showing Obama well ahead? They'll come through once the tallies start rolling in and CNN will explain how it all went down for us as they adjust their exit polls.

I live in the reddest of red areas and already know of three lifetime republican woman who plan on voting for Hillary (although they won't tell their husbands). Anecdotal, I know, but they are people who have NEVER considered a democrat before, so we are not talking the usual cross-overs but hard core republicans.

98. I am not happy about it, but I must agree with the OP.
Several Republican and independent women have told me this year, and in no uncertain terms, that they will not vote for Hillary Clinton. They didn't say that they would vote for the Republican nominee instead. They just said they wouldn't vote for Hillary. I don't know why, but the level of antipathy towards her is astounding.

It is very foolish to presume that Hillary will be the beneficiary of a massive undercurrent of latent feminism in the populace that wants to see a woman become President. I just don't see it happening with Hillary, and we need to win in November. From that perspective, Hillary is about the worst candidate we have.

I am an Edwards supporter, and I will vote for Hillary is she's the nominee, of course, but I fervently believe that we have other, better, and more electable candidates than she.

102. I'm surrounded by conservative Republicans...
and there is a lot of vitriol towards the Clintons (for all the wrong reasons, IMHO). I cannot see ANY of them voting for Clinton. In fact, as many have said here, if she is the nominee they will vote just to vote against her.

I DON'T AGREE WITH THIS. I'm simply giving my personal observations of those around me who are repugs (sadly, a lot of them.).

109. Well, I'm sure that's true, but there are a lot of us Dem women
who aren't happy about her, either, and who don't even want her as the nominee. I'll hold my nose and vote for her in the general if she ends up being the nominee (gag! choke!), but I'm sure as hell not going to vote for her in the primary. Of course, ours is the last in the country (June 3), so it'll obviously be more symbolic rather than really count for anything.
