"I realized that I couldn't really vote for Huckabee because of what Rush said."
Edited on Mon Jan-21-08 02:19 AM by oberliner
I came across that quote from the Boston Globe online.

Apparently Rush Limbaugh and his ilk are vociferously opposed to Huckabee because he is too liberal (in their formulations).

What a strange universe.

Here's the article for anyone interested:

1. oh yes!
The conservanuts hate Huckabee, McCain, Giuliani and Romney. They're depressed that Hunter dropped out, and they're pinning their hopes on Thompson. They are going to be VERY unhappy with their candidate this year.

2. They didn't like Bush much back in the day either,
But after the got the nomination he became god to them. They will form up behind whoever gets the nod.

3. It's weird because I thought Huckabee was the one the conservatives liked
Didn't the polls show him doing well among conservatives in general and evangelicals in particular?

7. Going to be?
They clearly ARE. I don't know about being depressed about Hunter (who?), but if they really are still pinning their hopes on Thompson (snore) they're in worse shape than even I thought.

5. Thompson is considered to be the only "true" conservative in that bunch.
Apparently Huckabee still has a soul & they don't like that.

6. The article suggests that they are pushing Romney
Perhaps they realize that Fred's ship has sailed.

Still, the idea that Huckabee was distasteful to them was quite surprising consider his views on abortion, gay marriage, and such.

9. He has said a few things about helping the poor. You can't get away with that
kind of talk.

8. he is
The Republicans have depended upon a coalition between those "values" voters as (mis)led by the religious right, and those supporting the interests of the wealthy and powerful few. It is an unlikely and unstable coalition, and it is now unraveling.

For one faction in the coalition, Huckabee is far too liberal - on economics. For another, Giuliani is far too liberal - on the "culture war" issues.

This reflects a deep weakness and vulnerability in the Republican party.
