Neither a Uniter Nor a Divider be...
Edited on Mon Jan-21-08 11:11 AM by WCGreen
Why can't the two top political figures in our party just explain in clear, easy to understand terms what it is they are going to try and accomplish after they take the oath of office...

Why can't they concentrate on policy instead of instead of depending on political tacticians to run their campaigns...

And why must they paint in pastoral glory what they want us to believe instead of speaking the truth about what they intend to do...

Why do they insist on giving the cable news readers item after item of inane content so that the half-witted ancestors of Murrow and Cronkite focus on the trivia instead of what is really and truly the positions that the candidates hold...

I constantly hear people outside of DU talking about having a feeling for a candidate instead of knowing where they stand or what they will try and do for the country...

Instead of platitudes and gutter politics we need a plan...

I've been watching politics closely now since 1972 (I was too young in 1968) and I have lived through several crisis times and more than a few gut-check times in American history...

It's gut check time...

I firmly believe that this country is in for a real bumpy ride over the next several decades as an energy crisis looms, terrorism will remain a threat to the US and other so-called free market societies, that the Soviet Union will use it's oil resources and military power to threaten the US whenever and however they can, that China will us challenge the US, environmental issues will have to be addressed, that a more boisterous lower class will face off with a more entrenched wealthy elits...

That the next president will face a myriad of deep rooted problems that is a given...

That either of our top two democratic candidates will have a long range vision with a nuts and bolts approach to keep this country from adding the US to Rome, Spain and Great Britain as once great civilizations is still up in the air...

BTW, Happy Martin Luther King Day...

Please take a moment to think about what King stood for and reflect on the power of his message and the fact he was willing to put it all on the line, everything, in order to forge a better society...

I can honestly say that Martin Luther King was the greatest American I have ever seen...

And today, we need someone like Martin Luther King who is willing to go the distance and put it all on the line because that certain someone knows they are on the right side of history and not just the positive side of a talking point...
