1. I like it.
Unfortunately he has to contend with the "muslim" emails Hillary's campaign has been sending out.

14. And they got fired for it. Do you imagine those
emails were invented by the Clinton campaign?

I don't like this mailer as much as I didn't like Huckabee using the cross in his Christmas mailer.

13. Why are candidates expected to apologize for being Christian?
I'm not Christian, but I don't expect any of the candidates to renounce or ignore their faith. It is an important issue to many voters in this country. This is a democracy, I have to accept that.

By the way, does Hillary still have Burns Strider on her payroll?

17. When has anyone ever had to apologize
for being a Christian in this country. That's a joke.

No one's asking Obama to renounce his religion, we're asking him not to use it in his campaign.

27. Don't pretend that...
Hillary isn't also calculating ways to appeal to Christians. Her weekly visits to black churches are well publicized.

Is Burns Strider still on her payroll?

19. I'm not comfortable with it at all...
...but then I don't live in South Carolina or anywhere else in the "bible belt." We can no longer afford to keep writing off vast segments of the American public over cultural or theological differences.

Even here in the north, the church is a vital part of the social and philosophical life of the majority of our citizens ... black, anglo, Hispanic, whatever. As long as the appeal is both sincere and honest (and it appears to be), I say good and well.

20. I thought he was Muslim?
Excellent debunk of attempted smears of Obama by those trying to demonize the Muslim faith. He is a Christian named Barack Hussein Obama.

22. Nauseating, but since whether he's a Christan is a valid campaign issue...
Countering the Muslim thing makes this within bounds.

Barely.

23. Yet one more reason not to vote for Obama...
I hate it when candidates have to tell us and prove to us how pious they are...it smells of truthiness and repug~like ick. Obama has made his church and his beliefs a public issue...he will have to answer to questions about Jeremiah Wright and Louis Farrakhan.

25. I have no problem with it.
I do not doubt that Obama is a committed practicing Christian. So was Martin Luther King Jr. So was Jimmy Carter. Now when someone like Rudy Giuliani tries to pass himself off as a real Christian I call foul. Or when someone defines his or her Christian faith along Pat Robertson's lines I have real problems with them wanting to lead America.

It is up to every voter to decide if Obama's faith will help him be a better President, make him a worse President, or make no difference. But I came of political age around leftist Christians and I know they have been a force for massive positive social change in the past.

Obama's faith is what it is, and if he wants to talk about it that is up to him.

26. I think it's about tamping down the rumors he's Muslim in the bible belt.
It's kind of a "third rail" of the campaign, but I think he's got potential to help stop the fear and hatred of Muslims, although it seems he needs to avoid it all instead, at least right now.
