Some Huckabee aides forgoing paychecks

Associated Press - January 22, 2008 3:53 PM ET

ATLANTA (AP) - There are signs that the campaign for Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee is having money troubles.

An adviser says several top aides to Huckabee are now working without pay, while others have left. The adviser says some of those staying on have agreed to forgo their pay so that the campaign can run television ads in vital states.

The adviser says campaign contributions are coming in, but the campaign is stretched thin as Florida's primary approaches.

Huckabee has told reporters that he's evaluating whether he'll continue campaigning in the state. The campaign has stopped arranging charter flights, hotel reservations and other means of helping journalists keep up with his movements. And the adviser says the campaign is planning to run ads on cable TV, but can't afford broadcast rates.

1. That's what happens when you have b-list celebrities endorsing you. They
don't have a mound of cash to give.

2. interesting
Interesting. This must mean that he does not have official Religious Right backing. Money's no object for them.

4. I really missed the call on him. I thought that the right wing bible thumpers
and evangelical fundamentalists had more power.
