Shocking phone call from the Edwards campaign
Yesterday I received a phone call asking me to support John Edwards. Among other things, the caller accused Barack Obama of supporting George Bush's policies on NAFTA.

Ugh.

43. I shocked, too! Too bad we can't get
to the bottom of these calls and see who for sure are the lyin' culprits.

Maybe someone who doesn't think they'd be caught. If I get any calls here in New York about what a bad boy Obama is..I'll give 'em an earful on who I think is the bad candidate.

They know that SC is their last chance to turn things around. They may be getting desperate, and may be in attack mode.

8. from what I see in the debates..
Edwards and Obama have a healthy relationship. They tease one another,
'bust on' one another, arent' afraid to challenge each other,
yet there is an open sense of admiration. Not so with Miss Hillary,
who keeps a cold distance.

The Edwards camp hasn't pulled dirty tricks.. but the clinton camp..

20. As long as everyone's speculating about that "meeting"...
why hasn't anyone suggested they're just hot for each others' bods, and were going at it like a couple of furry bunnies in that room for 20 minutes?

All the other explanations I've heard make about that much sense.

27. John repeatedly says that if you want to vote for change this election
there are only 2 candidates to choose from- him or Barack.
He's very dismissive of Hillary and her antics.
That's why I don't think he likes her all that much.

I really don't think they were cooking something up.
Or... I really dont think JOHN would be involved in whatever Hillary's campaign might cook up.

11. Edwards is in third place in his birth state. You bet he's desperate!
If Edwards comes a distant third in South Carolina, it will be difficult for him to remain viable in most of the Mega Tuesday States. Most voters (and all the media) will see it as a two-horse race.

So Edwards campaign is no doubt trying to get some traction in SC by any means necessary.

48. I have done phone banking - last weekend -
to SC and I can guarantee, that is not how we are instructed to talk to potential voters. We are told, the minute they tell us they are supporting another candidate, we say, "I respect your choice and thank you for your time". End of call. I don't believe for a minute this came from the Edwards campaign.

31. They probably meant CAFTA, which Obama agreed with on the merits
He claims he voted against it as a protest vote because not enough time was given to air labor union's concerns. It is another instance of Obama triangulating an issue but it is clear, from his own writings in his book, that he had no objection to CAFTA on the merits.

As to free trade in general, Obama supports it. Read his book. He has exactly the same view Hillary and Bill Clinton have on the issue.

50. He doesn't
He believes in the concept of free trade, not trade as it has been implemented.

"And although I believe that free trade - when also fair - can benefit workers in both rich and poor nations, I think that the current NAFTA regime lacks the worker and environmental protections that are necessary for the long-term prosperity of both America and its trading partners. I would therefore favor, at minimum, a significant renegotiation of NAFTA and the terms of the President’s fast track authority."

http://www.blackcommentator.com/48/48_cover.html

This was back during his Senate race, so he has taken this exact same position all along.

41. The numbers of these calls and the types of calls lead me to think...
that the GOP is involved in them. They used these tactics in 2000 and 2004.

Pretty hard to tell the difference between an opponent and the GOP in these things.

Fascinating that so many here are so quick to place the blame.
