Bill Clinton: "an unusally good liar."
That was Hollywood big shot David Geffen (he's the G in Dreamworks SKG) a former supporter of Clinton's, last year explaining why he wouldn't endorse Hillary for President.

He went on to say, "Everybody in politics lies, but they do it with such ease, it’s troubling."

Which echoes the comment of former Democratic Senator Bob Kerrey, who in 1996 noted, "Clinton's an unusually good liar. Unusually good. Do you realize that?"

Seems that Geffen and Kerrey might be good judges of character.

Watching the former President in action the last two weeks reminded many of the ugly side of the Clinton years.

One glaring example? How about the one his wife repeated in the Sunday debate, in an attempt, as she cleverly said "to clarify the record":

Bill and Hillary both lied about Barack Obama's comments on Ronald Reagan and Republicans. And kept repeating them, even after they were confronted with the videotape.

6. Well, he's the number 2 liar now
He has passed the mantle on to The Queen Of All Lies, who has not tarnished the crown at all.

Next week Hillary morphs into Florence Nightingale in an attempt to get the nurse endorsement, followed by a trip into the California agricultural region where her choice of pant suit colors will be grape, peach, and apricot.

Purely coincidental, of course.

I was against the war.

Except when I wasn't.

But I really was.

Unless I can get more votes by being for The War On Terror again.

I could do that.

9. Mrs. Clinton Is A Rare Species
I've never seen anybody who could do such a convincing job of simultaneously being for AND against everything. Everything. War. Abortion. Etc.

Incredible.

10. The blue dress stopped that in its tracks and
now it's Kennedy, Rahm Emanuel, James Clyburn, Kerry, ect, ect trying to reign in the big attack dog..

"Leading Democrats to bill clinton"
"Prominent Democrats are upset with the aggressive role that Bill Clinton is playing in the 2008 campaign, a role they believe is inappropriate for a former president and the titular head of the Democratic Party. In recent weeks, Sen. Edward Kennedy and Rep. Rahm Emanuel, both currently neutral in the Democratic contest, have told their old friend heatedly on the phone that he needs to change his tone and stop attacking Sen. Barack Obama, according to two sources familiar with the conversations who asked for anonymity because of their sensitive nature. Clinton, Kennedy and Emanuel all declined to comment."

4. Barack kissed Geffen's ring
Hillary refused. Ergo, Geffen stabs Hillary and Bill -- two longtime friends of his -- in the back because Barack is willing to stroke the ol' Geffen ego.

But what has Geffen done for Barack lately? He suffers from what I call Shiny Object Syndrome. Once the LA Times reporter left and it was no longer about David, he lost interest and, after a fundraiser or two, is now at the "Barack who?" stage.

CW Swinney has most of Clinton's speeches on Video and cannot locate a deliberate attempt to deceive the public regarding the public's business. Not one.

11. That's Why (He Used To Be) An "Unusually Good Liar"
When he steamrolled NAFTA and permanent "free" trade status for China, he knew that it would enrich the Predator Class and eviscerate the Middle Class. He was either stupid or a liar when he said those lovely acts would be good for us - and he's not stupid. But we can't prove he was a liar, so he might have just been stupid.

The Missus pulled the same thing on Iraq. Most Congressional Democrats voted against the Iraq war. Clinton voted for it, saying that Saddam was trying to nuke us. Now she claims that she was simply ignorant, not a liar. So she's stupider than most Democrats in Congress? I think not.

In general, the Clintons have been superb at spinning lies with plausible deniability. But things have changed in the past few months - their lies are now as undeniable as "I did not have sex with that woman" and "My parents named me after Sir Edmund Hillary". Big, whopping lies. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

15. And he also "remembered" ...
black churches being torched in Arkansas when he was a young lad, trying to relate to the victims of the 1990s church burnings throughout the South.

Just one problem ... there were no recorded arsons of ANY black churches in Arkansas during Slick's boyhood.

What we need is a progressive President, not a habitual liar and her husband (King of all Liars).

Bush is an idiot, used by powerful forces around him. He never could have been a good President, he's simply incapable.

Bill is pretty smart, and could have done a world of good if only cared about others more than he cared about himself.

22. Seriously - he doesn't need to be there to win the state.
I think his campaign is flustered on several levels.

Meanwhile, Hillary decides on Monday to have an event in Arizona on Tuesday and with less than 24 hours notice gets a crowd of 10,000 and people complaining that they couldn't get near the venue and she didn't plan for overflow. Now that's a problem to have...

19. Sadly, Geffen is about as pure as freshly driven snot, himself
Geffen is one of the people who turned the music profession into the music "business" in the 1960s and 1970s.

This book does a pretty good job of exposing the seamy side of Geffen, Jon Landau, et. al.

32. There would never have been Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, the Eagles and more without David Geffen.
Edited on Thu Jan-24-08 12:10 PM by David Zephyr
Recently, Jackson Brown, even chimed in with a roaring defense of David Geffen stating that everyone always wants to solely spotlight David's business career, but never stops to give him the credit for the music he was responsible for and how few really understand how much he loved the music.

When David Crosby and Stephen Stills had dropped in at Joni Mitchell's home here in Laurel Canyon (The Tree House) where she and Cass Elliot were baking, the boys wound up playing music together. Later, they cruised down to The Troubadour where The Hollies were playing. Afterward, David and Stephen took Graham Nash back up to Joni's home. Once again, the boys wound up playing music while they girls did their thing. In no time, CS&N were creating their signature harmonies and Cass walked in and told them they had to form a band. Well, contracts would prevent that came the reply. But sweet Joni chimed back, 'I know someone who can take care of that'. Geffen, who Joni penned "A Free Man in Paris" about, had the boys making music without fears of legal reprisals. And shortly after that, they were all in NYC with David Geffen hiring the famous helicopter to get the boys to Woodstock where they played Joni's quantum song.

The story of the Eagles is very similar with Jackson Browne urging those boys, who were backing up Linda Ronstadt, to literally band together. And one of the legendary tales of rock is the one where Glen Frey, Don Henley and gang are stewing in David's big jacuzzi with Jackson Browne trying to determine a good name for the band.

David Geffen stood behind artists that he believed in, mostly all songwriters, when no one else would touch them. He put them up in apartments, paid their dental bills out of his own pocket and kept boosting their psyches when rejections came.

None other than John Lennon himself trusted David Geffen more than anyone with his last album. And David was there for Yoko when the tragedy came.

David Geffen has poured a fortune into AIDS related services and projects. He's given his time and heart in more ways than most people know.

When Jackson Browne came out of nowhere to stick up for David, the love and respect he showed was quantum

Just because Geffen isn't supporting the Clintons this time, even though he helped them both enormously in the past, should not translate into your smearing a wonderful man.

Long after this election cycle, David Geffen will be doing great things from his very big and generous heart.

24. My father lied for his job
and he was good at it. He caught racist real estate and property renters and brought them to court for the city of Chicago.

One of his funny stories was, he went into a case and told the realtor his name was Bob. Then his case partner came in and called him John. And the realtor said, hey I thought your name was Bob. And my father said, it is John Bob.

Sometimes lying is an asset. And sometimes the truth lies deeper that the first layer.

31. I've read dozens of books about him and original sources, he was dishonest...
and duplicitous for sport. He set aides against each other - in very much the same way he let his mother and wife go at it - to see what would happen. He told Henry Morgenthau that his right and left hands never know what the other hand is doing. Morgenthau answered, "which hand am I?"

Without warning his advisers, he sold out to William Randloph Hearst and denounced US participation in the World Court in order to cut off some of the conservative support for John Nance Garner. Neither Eleanor nor many of his aides spoke to him for a couple of days. In order to gain conservative support he made a speech at Franklin Field in Philly advocating a balanced budget. He ran very differently than he governed.

He regularly left people that discussed issues with him that he was in total agreement with them, and they were often surprised that he was not. He was dishonest about his paralysis, his life, etc.

FDR also refused to permit any of the reporters that met with him twice a week to quote him directly. Hence, the quotations from "a senior White House official."

A duplicitous bastard? Yes. Our greatest president? Perhaps.
