This is not a prediction about an Obama running mate
But it would not suprise me at all if it was

Obama-Hagel

Hagel is rumored recently to have said "I don't know if you can call me a Republican anymore"

If he breaks with the GOP and becomes an independent. I bet he makes the shortlist

Again This is not an endoresment....but it would mkae a very interesting ticket

1. No chance. Hagel is an ultra-conservative.
His record and his rhetoric do not match. He has a long history of saying one thing in public and doing something very different when it's time to vote.

2. But he is opposed to the war.
and thinks the GOP is made up of fools.

that is his one selling point.

5. Doesn't matter. An ultra-conservative is the last thing we need on the ticket.
His opinion of his own party notwithstanding.

15. I Understand What You're Saying... But From What I've Seen Of Obama Lately
IT WOULDN'T surprise me. He might even be considering Lieberman, that's how much I think he to the right of me.

6. Anti-abortion. Very conservative. You're not promoting this, are you?
This is as bad as Kucinich/Ron Paul.

8. He's conservative, but it's not true that he says one thing and does another
come vote time. The only time he did that was with the Warner-Levin anti-Surge resolution (which he cosponsored) last year, during the cloture vote, when the Repubs wanted to try to force Repub pro-war resolutions to also be voted on. Otherwise, he is what he is--he's pretty honest. He's not an Arlen Specter. That's a pretty weak compliment, but there it is. If he was up for Senate re-election this year, I'd have voted for him, though--if a decent Dem didn't run (and there aren't any running, sadly). Better the devil you know, and all that.

3. I suspect (and hope) Obama might now pick Janet Napolitano.
She'd make a great Vice-President or Attorney General.

11. No way. Obama needs someone with foreign policy experience
and national security/military experience--we're at war in two countries, for God's sake. He doesn't need someone with pothole budget experience. Plus, a woman on the ticket is a little too groundbreaking. We're not trying to make a social engineering statement, we're trying to pick the best match for him. It's different with Hillary, because she's so famous she's down to one name.

13. Obama has foreign policy experience
but if he does want more emphasis in that area, i think Gary Hart would be good. maybe Max Cleland.

14. I think Hart's a little, well, old. Cleland wouldn't be bad. I like Biden, possibly

Dodd, or Jack Reed--yes, Jack Reed. An unexciting man, but smart, military creds, seems like an experienced workhorse.
