And then what sounded like "Clinton".

Those are the words I heard (clearly he thought his mike was off)- wondering if he had just gotten news of the NYT endorsement. Things that make you go hmmmm.....

Maybe he'll mention it after the break. Or maybe if was something else entirely.

sure made my ears perk up. I didn't hear the 'Clinton' part though just the 'unbelievable'.

4. Heard that too - maybe in reference to them mentioning Hillary over and over?
Edited on Thu Jan-24-08 09:45 PM by Lastlaughin08
As if she's already the nominee?

What's your guess?

9. My guess was that someone just handed him news of the NYT endorsement as they went into the break.
"Did you see this?", perhaps he was asking Brian Williams, his co-anchor. "Unbelievable", well we know how Russert feels about the Clintons.

8. YES!!! I posted this in Repub Debate "ROUND 3" Thread
Anyone catch Russert before the break, thought his mic was off??

He said "That was just unbelievable." And then they cut him off.

Wonder if he was talking to Brian about the fact that nobody (except Ron Paul) answered his "Has Iraq been worth it" question?

Or was he just telling Brian about the "unbelievable" tacky place settings at the last cocktail party they attended? }(

10. Jen, I tried to reply to you, but the thread was locked. I didn't think GE Russert would be dissing
the Rethugs while they were still onstage. And I don't think he'd be surprised by their craven responses to the question about the war being worth the blood and treasure. But it's very likely he didn't know about the NYT endorsement of Hillary before the debate began, and was genuinely surprised by the news.

14. I really don't think it's the endorsement
I don't think it would be that surprising to Williams and Russert that a New York newspaper endorsed the Senator from New York.

I hit every page they rely on... Halperin, Drudge, Politico, Tapper, Ambinder and didn't see anything especially new. It could be anything. At the time I heard it, I interpreted it as Russert reacting to the candidates refusing to answer his "Was Iraq Worth It" question. But the only thing I heard was "that's unbelievable" before they cut him off, and I'm not on a Tivo TV!! :-)

11. I heard the "see this...unbelievable" but nothing
about Hillary. I have the captioning on my TV and looked quickly around but didn't see any captioning that went off script.

And thanks to YouTube, we'll all be able to review it shortly. }(

Brilliant candidates discussing issues and policies. Republicans only talk ideology and dogma.

So, the "rest of the story" may well be, "Hillary will kick their ass"
(Go Obama)

18. KICK... I think I figured it out!!!
I'll bet you anything Russert had just been shown the photograph of the Clintons with Tony Rezco. Hours later, it would first be revealed on "The Today Show."

So, I have a really strong feeling that's what Russert was referring to, since he said "Hillary" and "have you seen this" and "that's just unbelievable."
