Poll question: How do People in Your Area Feel About Hillary Clinton?
Edited on Fri Jan-25-08 01:27 PM by Kristi1696
This is a poll that I've been wanting to do for weeks. I'd like to get a general sense whether people in various parts of the country would or would not support Hillary in a General Election (not just primaries).

ETA: If any of you are looking for a hypothetical opponent, let's say McCain (considering he seems the most likely right now)

Thanks for participating.

3. Really? They don't talk to people and read their local newspapers?
I think that I have a pretty good idea of the sentiment in my area.

24. Exactly
They talk to people who think just like them and when they get their own views shouted back at them they consequently think everybody thinks like them...

21. Many DUers claim to know no one who likes Hillary or will vote for her.
Edited on Fri Jan-25-08 01:32 PM by rinsd
On edit: see post # 9.

Here is the most recent polling for CA (I'm not saying Hillary will win but this shows she obviously has some support).

Poll Date Sample	Clinton	Obama	Edwards	Spread
RCP Average 01/11 - 01/20 - 43.5 31.5 10.5 Clinton +12.0
Field 01/14 - 01/20 377 LV 39 27 10 Clinton +12.0
Rasmussen 01/14 - 01/14 897 LV 38 33 12 Clinton +5.0
Polit/CNN/LAT 01/11 - 01/13 384 LV 47 31 10 Clinton +16.0
SurveyUSA 01/11 - 01/13 810 LV 50 35 10 Clinton +15.0

DUers are not rank & file Democrats and rarely are good predictors for support amongst the party or electorate.

4. I hope that you don't think that this is going to be indicative of anything.
DUers tend to think that their own personal worldviews are indicative of their communities, states, regions, and the entire country. Hence, the common "nobody I know likes Obama/Edwards/Clinton, so he/she can't possibly win!" posts.

Let's just say that many DUers are a source significantly more biased than most.

9. I am on the West Coast, Southern Calif....
...and have a lot of liberal friends. To a one, no one supports her. We are about evenly split between Edwards and Obama and most will likely vote for Hillary if she is the nominee, but no one I know of is supporting her and most dislike her a great deal. I frankly cannot stand her and could not stand her when she was First Lady...and I hope to hell us Dems are smart enough to NOT put her at the head of the ticket. That IMO spells disaster for sure.

JMHO

23. The other end of the West Coast feels the same way.
I don't know a single person in Washington state who will be voting for Hillary in the caucus. Probably would have been a great Kucinich turnout in my precinct. 2004 ended up being pretty much a three way Dean/Kerry/Kucinich split. I expect it will be mostly Edwards/Obama this time, now that Dennis is out :(

30. Its really amazing.
Its amazing that Hillary has so much support in national polls but its so difficult to find active Democrats who actually like her. I think her support in polls must be coming from people who aren't very involved in the party or issue groups.

If Hillary's the candidate, my state's going red.
I will not vote for her. I will not vote for the Repuke either.
It will not matter whom I vote for cause my states going to be in the Republican column.

Obama could swing us blue. We just elected a Democratic governor.
With Hill on the ticket, it' not going to happen.

26. She has no appeal in the Midwest.
Edited on Fri Jan-25-08 01:33 PM by Radical Activist
Her third place finish in Iowa was no surprise and its a sign of how badly she'll do in the region. The only active Democrats I know who are supporting her are women voting based on her gender. There are only so many strong feminists who are also willing to overlook her record on the war and other issues. That doesn't win elections.
Hillary is a coastal candidate. We might as well give up on the South and Midwest if she's the nominee.

29. It's sort of looking that way, isn't it...
It's always been my impression that she had not a chance in either the South or the Midwest. I set up this poll to test my assumptions.

Super Tuesday is going to be interesting. They're only seriously polling the coastal states. How the Midwest and South are leaning is still a mystery.

31. CT is going bigtime for HRC. Not that it matters because our state is so little.
Spouse works at City Hall in New Haven. Our mayor is supporting Obama. My spouse is supporting HRC. Our Atty General, Dick Blumenthal, a really good guy, just came out for HRC. Turns out he and the Clintons were at Yale Law School together. Dick is a talented man, a very strong defender of reproductive rights (he and his wife serve on Planned Parenthood of CT's Greenwich event committee). If HRC is president I wouldn't be surprised if she tapped him to serve in her administration in some capacity. I've heard he really wants to be a judge. He turned down the chance to run for Governor. Too bad, I think he would have won but we're stuck with Mother Rell, a Republican.

45. Arizona here, and Clinton is quite popular.
Poll: Clinton and McCain well ahead in Arizona

On the Democratic side, Clinton claimed 45 percent of the voters polled, putting her well ahead of Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, who drew just 24 percent. Obama gained little ground since the last poll, even after winning the endorsement of Gov. Janet Napolitano.
